Clarins Review: Skin Care Skin Care - Sunblock/Sunscreen

Review: Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF40 UVA-UVB/PA+++ (Tinted) + Comparison with Beige Version!

I’m indecisive between editing previous Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF40 UVA-UVB/PA+++ (Tinted) review with new sets of picture or post up an updated review. Finally I decided to revive the review that I posted 1 and 1/2 year ago with a new one. Which of course is the one you’re reading now.

I started out with sunscreen rather late. 2-years ago my cousin sis told me while pointing to her aunt at a wedding that if I didn’t want to have a face full with pigmentation I should use sunscreen. Her aunt is a good scare to me as her face is FULL with pigmentation. But then I was so lazy until I was on Clarins skin care that I purchase a bottle of Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF40 UVA-UVB/PA+++ (Tinted).

My first bottle is a 50ml Limited Edition size. I’ve since then repurchased or gotten it free from certain best buy sets. Yes you heard me. FREE from best buy set!

The reason why I bought Tinted instead of Neutral (that time there’s no Beige yet) mainly because of the pink tint that can brighten and adjust uneven skin tone.

The bottle design is the same across all color; Neutral and Beige. I need to remind you again that after you’ve shake the bottle and unscrew the cap…the content will ooze out so nowadays I just shake the bottle gently sideway and not with up down movement.

The writing on my previous 50ml bottle is wiped out when I was about 3/4 of the bottle but the writing on my 30ml bottle is pretty much still intact. Just curious. Anyone have this problem with 50ml bottle too?

You can differentiate the color of your Clarins UV Plus HP sunscreen easily as the color is printed on the front of the bottle. There will be no color for Neutral, Pink square box for Tinted while Light Brown square box for Beige.

The color of Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF40 UVA-UVB/PA+++ (Tinted) appears slightly pink although some said it resemble tinted moisturizer. It give some coverage while brighten and even out uneven skin tone. Previously I was told the amount to use is 20 cents coin size but I think the amount totally depends on each individual. Some said it’s too much while I think it’s just right for me as I replaced foundation / BB cream with this so more coverage is needed. Now that I’m on foundation I still apply sunscreen but just 10 cent coin size.

The right method to use this sunscreen from Clarins is to warm with both palm and press onto face gently from inner to outer corner. I’ve never rub the sunscreen in as it dries down very quickly and therefore it flakes. If you use pressing method you’d find that finishing is much more smoother and even without flaking.

Tinted gave me the “glow” and coverage. At first it looked whitish. Gave it a minute or two to settle in and it’ll looked more natural.

You might be wondering what’s the different between Tinted and Beige. It’s hard to compare between 2 different review page. I know, I know. The best way to explain the difference between both since both is with color is by doing a simple diagram as below.

On it’s own – Both is similar in many way. Texture, scent is the same. Opacity is not. Beige appears more opaque.
Slightly spread – Even just lightly spread the content out, Tinted is more “wet” in texture while Beige is beginning to look dry. I had the same experience during application too.
Blended – Both gave a slight color and coverage but Beige is more thick and drier than Tinted. Beige gave a foundation-like coverage. Suitable for all skin tone but if applied too much will look cakey. Tinted is less acceptable compare with Beige due to the pink tint.

What color are you? Tinted, Beige or you’d prefer Neutral which is color-less? I still prefer Tinted though.

Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF40 UVA-UVB/PA+++ (Tinted) is available at all Clarins counter nationwide. Also available in Neutral and Beige.
Price: RM158 for 30ml

  • I have this tinted for sample ~ya pink base and it is I felt it is more moisture than Beige colour. But coverage wise, the Beige one is better.

Beige okay as well. I don’t prefer using it everyday. Tinted I can do everyday

  • I’m using both the tinted pink and beige. I mix them together and pat it onto my skin, set it with loose powder or foundation powder if I need more coverage and it’s good for the entire day!

  • Hello! my friend gave this to me as a birthday gift. but something about clarin’s packaging that really turns me off. its like, at one glance, i cannot really pick up the name of the product, and it’s harder to remember the product if i cannot rmb the name! like i know it’s sun screen. but all that ecran high protection UV. it’s really a mouthful.

I rmb there being a few diff types of sunblock (and now i know, from this post, it’s the shade) but i have a problem. i have no idea what shade is mine!!! i tried reading the words on the box yday but gave up coz there was just too many words. haha and after reading your blog, i guess i can differentiate it via the colour box. BUT if i got mine as a gift, (means i did not look at the other shades), i dont think i can remember what shade is mine when i go back to the counter to repurchase it. like right now, if u ask me, i cannot rmb what shade is mine in. i wouldn’t have guessed that the colour box was a way to differentiate the shade.

sorry for the long winded complaint. haha just expressing how difficult is it for me to remember their product. but regardless, i really like this sun screen. i feel that it works well as a make up base as well, and most likely i’ll be repurchasing it. haha now, i need to get to know what shade is mine in!
