Arty Professional Make Up - Face Review: Make Up

Review: Arty Professional Shimmer Compact Powder; Too Shimmering for Face But Yet Excellent as Highlighter

If I look at the name and description of the box for this Arty Professional Shimmer Compact Powder I can easily mistaken this as compact powder with shimmer but in fact this lovely is actually face highlighter. I hope I get it right because that’s how I’m using it and that’s how it’s going to be for me 🙂

This compact comes with a black velvet pouch. How often do you see compact powder that came with a velvet pouch? I do see some brands having it but not all. So when I saw that Arty Professional Shimmer Compact Powder comes with one, I put a tick on the “Like” checklist to approve it.

I do feel the necessity to include a pouch because later on I found out that the powder is not as dense as I think. With one swipe, I ended up with lots of powder fallout on the side of the compact. At least with this pouch on I can prevent the residue from staining my bag when I carry it around.

The casing is in black although I know it does look like brown (I took picture under sunlight) in the below picture. As you can see it’s slightly see through. On the other hand rest assured that it’s quite well made. No complain on the casing.

Shimmer Compact Powder is a micro-shimmering tones set off sparks of brilliance while highlighting the complexion. It’s ultra-fine, blendable formula virtually fuses with the skin for a sheer, radiant luminosity. The compact comes with 4 different shades. You are suppose to swirl all colors together with the brush provided or you can also pick up a certain shade to enhance different areas of your face at your desire.

The cute lil brush provided is housed in a acrylic shell that was protecting the compact powder on the other side. Once again I find the acrylic shell very useful due to the powder fallout per use.

The word “Shimmer” always intrigued me very much. I love makeup that are shimmering or at least contain shimmer particles. At first when I got this I really thought it’s for the whole face just like normal compact powder. I looked at it so many times and I wondered why something so extremely shimmering is for face. You bet I experimented it ON THE WHOLE FACE on my first use. I looked like disco ball! I kid you not. It was hilarious.

The 4-colors – white, brown, peach and beige are beautifully made. Each color works well with each other. If you fancy to use different shade on different area of your face, by all mean go ahead.

Ahhh the cute brush. The size and usage of the brush is just right for the compact. Afterall you only need to use it to highlight certain area of your face as highlighter. At first I used the brush but I notice a strong fishy scent. I continued to do so for the next few times then finally I can’t stand it anymore and I took at sniff at the powder because I thought the powder was errr smelly. The powder smells alright so it must be the brush. I took at sniff at the brush and nearly fainted. The fishy scent came from the brush. I washed it with Johnsons & Johnsons Baby Shampoo a few times but the smell is still there. So now I have no choice but to use another brush to highlight. Such a pity cause I really like the brush 🙁

Here is the color swatch.

From left to right: White, Brown, Peach and Beige.

The most pigmented color would be Peach. Beige is slightly matte compared with the rest. Overall all 4 shade is quite shimmering. Just like how it was on the compact itself.

Using this compact means you need to be extra light handed. Go as light as you can and swipe just lightly one time. Layer on if you think it’s not highlighting enough.

I’m using Arty Professional Shimmer Compact Powder on the bridge of my nose, on top of my cheeks right below my eyes, chin and forehead. Actually using this on forehead is not recommended as your face can look oily as the day goes by. Highlighting it on the temples is the right place ya.

Judging from the amount I’m using I think this compact would last me for more than a year! You don’t really need a lot actually. Even the swirling on the compact requires light handed.

  • You look tanned in the after picture. How come?

    • Why not? Maybe I was out in the sun? Maybe lighting? Etc…

  • Natural lighting are hard to predict. Sometime one picture is okay which in your case on the left and by the time you put on the powder and pose the sun shifted which in your case is the right side. Anyway back to the review. I can see what you mean. It is quite obvious. I am still not familiar with highlighting certain area on my face.

    • Clever girl. I took my sweet time with the highlighter and the sun refuse to wait for me lol.
I’m also not very familiar with highlighters. This would be my first!

  • Uh, I thought you looked better in the before pic. Could be the highlighter.

    • Highlighter is not meant for whole face. I only applied on certain area as mentioned. Maybe you’re not used to it. I kinda like how the light reflects.
