Review: Uriage Hyséac Gentle Cleansing Gel, The Closest Dupe To My Favorite Cleansing Gel

Rather than my usual 1,000 to 2,000 words review, I’m going to keep this post short. I have people telling me that my product reviews are too detail which I can’t help but to raise an eyebrow. Aren’t review suppose to be in detail? Would you prefer to read half way cause I hate reading a review that are incomplete with just a few pictures that I need to google for another review. Well anyway everyone review differently. Like it or not I like mine to be IN DETAIL lol 😀

Anyway back to the cleansing gel. How I discover this Uriage Hyséac Gentle Cleansing Gel was quite funny. I had this from MIVVA March 2013 edition which means I’ve been keeping it for a few months. I keep a few cleanser near the sink and a few more in the bathroom. One of the cleanser near the sink ran out so I took Uriage Hyséac Gentle Cleansing Gel out from the storage to use. After that I took a short nap. I woke up a few hours later with my eye still closed, walked to the sink to wash my face with Uriage Hyséac Gentle Cleansing Gel. At that time I have a tube of Clarins Purifying Cleansing Gel near the sink as my morning cleanser. Half way through the cleansing I stopped, open one eye to check if I got the right cleansing gel. It was Uriage one alright but how come it smells like Clarins? I stoned in front of the sink, with cleanser and hands on my face for a few minutes before I took another sniff of the cleanser. That is when I realized I found the exact dupe version of the now extinct Clarins Purifying Cleansing Gel. Well maybe not 100% but 98% 😀

The one I have on hand is not the full size but a generous deluxe miniature version of the 150ml full size. The packaging is still the same – tube with flip cap.

Now the texture and scent. You’ve guessed it right. It’s in gel form (of course :D) and normally cleansing gel doesn’t foam up too well. Using this require a “trial and error”. I find that squeezing out the amount of an old 20 cent coin onto wet palm lathers better. Do not try to pour water onto the cleansing gel cause you will not get any foam at all if you do so. The foam is not as extreme as cleansing foam but good enough to wash the whole face.

The scent on the other hand is h.e.a.v.e.n. I don’t know how to describe but its fresh and fragrant. The scent disappear a few second after washing so if you are not keen on fragrant skincare this is not going to be a problem for you.

I said that this is the closest dupe of my favorite Clarins Purifying Cleansing Gel right? I’ll tell you why. Okay I’m so stress now cause I wanna keep this short 😛

Uriage Hyséac Gentle Cleansing Gel vs Clarins Purifying Cleansing Gel

Texture – Both is in clear gel texture. Uriage is more runnier. Just a slight. Clarins one is more thicker with a little hint of green color.

Foam – Uriage require some trick to make it foam up. Clarins foams up quite easily as its thicker in texture.

Scent – Both smells similar. I would say about 98% similarity. Which is why I thought Uriage is Clarins. If I need to choose, Clarins smells better. Maybe because I’m used to the scent 🙂

Cleanness – Both clean away dirt and oil effectively without drying the face.

Rinsing – Both rinse away quite easily. Doesn’t leave that slippery residue.

Price – Uriage 150ml is retailing at RM61.90 with easier to reach places like Guardian, Caring, Aeon Wellness and Health Lane Family pharmacy. Clarins is pricey – RM92 for 125ml and you can only buy Clarins product from Clarins counter.

  • But but I love your long reviews!!!! This one is ok but please dont go too short! Theres too many photos only short review blogs around. I personally find them useful when i am researching something..but for everyday read? Nah..

    • That makes the two of us hehe. This one can go this short because its just a cleanser :P. I can’t go lengthy with cleanser review. I’ll be crazy if I do ahahahaha!! Normally 1k to 2k words are 3 products and above :).
The background story is like a self-reminder just in case I need to recall where I buy, how I got it or who gifted it to me 🙂

  • Haha! No fuss about the length of the post, so long it is informative and covers all the essential points, reviews in great length are certainly appreciated 🙂 This is not a speech which probably best to adopt the mini skirt theory – long enough to cover the important part, short enough to attract attention lol. I have not tried cleansing gel though I always have the impression that it is better for my oily skin compared to the usual cleanser. Great that you stumble upon this little gem in the beauty box.

    • Yay! Glad you are okay with it. Ahh yes, cleansing gel is recommended for oily skin instead of the normal foam type. But I guess if the normal foam cleanser doesn’t strip too much oil from your face leaving you with tight skin…I guess its alright too.
Beauty box is a great platform to discover products that I never thought of trying 😀

  • Hey Fiona, I love your detailed reviews too. I learn a lot from them. You’re not just blabbing; it’s informative stuff you have here. Don’t you go turning your posts into tweets now 😛 !
Lol, I want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and sometimes the truth has got to be long…even if it hurts 🙂

    • Thanks Girl! Nah, I like how my review is. Will be maintaining the long lengthy auntie blabbing hahahahaha!
I feel that if I need to write a short review I don’t present the message well. Lots of info will be missed out. Thus the long review 😉

  • I love your detail post! so just keep your long long post. only then we will know how good/bad is a product. I also received this in MIVVA box and I started to use it for last 2 months! i nearly finish my tube very soon, maybe 1 more month to go. I found it remove all the dirt very effectively. At first I wasn’t use to it due to the gel like texture but after using it for 2 months, I am use to it. I did found some review say they feel very dry after using this product, but never a problem for me. I don’t feel dry at all. Maybe it is more suitable for oily skin like us!

    • Thanks for the feedback Melissa :D. Oh yea, reason why sone find it to be dry after using is because they are not oily skin. For oily skin its perfect.
