Review: Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream, My Current Favorite Moisturizer + A Little Something Something For My Dear Readers!

For someone that have unstable skin condition like mine will need to change daily moisturizer constantly. There are times where my skin are dry, peeling but oily at the same time and there are times where my skin are just purely oily. To be honest with you I’m a bit addicted in opening up those jars of moisturizer from my stash.

Just to update you a bit on my skin before Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream came along. A few months ago I was having a hard time with the oiliness on my face. My makeup melted frequent, I blot so many times in a day…everything is just too oily for me. I figure that my skin has reached it’s peak whereas I used too much skin care and that I don’t need that much anymore. So I cut down on my serum. From 3-serum to just one and then moisturizer. It was working out great but later on my skin was back to oily. But I was depressed because I love layering my skin care. How am I going to finish my stash?? One day, someone (I forgot who oppss!) told me that it could be that my skin is too dry. She advised me to use moisturizer, although I told her I did use. Maybe not enough 😀

So, I re-look back into my skin care regime and change my moisturizer. To creamier one. The only one I have is Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream and it has been staring at me for months!

Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream6
There is nothing to shout about on the packaging. I got to admit. It’s not attractive, it’s not screaming “USE ME NOW”, in fact it looked like some Middle Eastern company produced it LOL. The brand name on the other hand doesn’t sound Eastern so it really looked a bit dodgy.

83 years ago (1930), Himalaya Founder; Mr. M. Manal forms The Himalaya Drug Company. His vision is to put ayurveda on par with modern medicine. During a visit to Burma, he saw restless elephants being fed with a root to pacify them. The plant from which this was taken is Rauwolfia serpentina. He was fascinated by the plant’s effect on elephants so he had it scientifically evaluated. After extensive research, Serpina®, the world’s first anti-hypertensive drug was launched in 1934.

When I was at Himalaya Malaysia office for a blogger get-together session, I was told that Nourishing Skin Cream is the best seller of Himalaya. You can basically use this on the face as moisturizer and on hand and body as lotion. I was literally wow-ed by that because who knew this simple small lil pot is meant for face, hand and body. I was also told that Nourishing Skin Cream used to retail at RM28.90. Tourist would buy them in bulks because this 50ml jar will not last long if you are using it on the face and body. Plus it is cheaper to get it in Malaysia. Then something happened. Instead of hiking up the price, Himalaya Malaysia decided to slash the price to RM15.90 because they want more and more people to enjoy using it without hurting the wallet. For God’s sake! RM28.90 is already cheap! Slashing it down to 50% cheaper is even better! Not only that. Himalaya came out with a jumbo size jar 😀

Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream2
Nourishing Skin Cream is white in color. It is a cream so do expect this to be creamy. Eventhough so, the cream is surprisingly light and non-greasy, even for daily-use. It contain Indian Aloe (Aloe Vera) that works by nourishes and moisturizes the skin, Withnania somnifera (Winter Cherry) and Pterocarpus marsupium (Indian Kino Tree) is to protect skin from pollution and dry weather.

One thing that convert me to a Nourishing Skin Cream believer is the scent. It smells so good that I can’t stop massaging my face! For me the scent is not too over-powering. But do bear in mind, I’m okay with heavily scented skin care. If you are not then the scent of this cream will be too much for you to take. I would normally use this cream generously on night routine. Basically I just use a simple face massage from the inner to outer corner of my face, massaging the cream in until it’s fully absorbed. Do not dream away during face massage because if you continue massaging once the cream dries down, you might risk pulling and tugging your skin. This will create all the fine lines and wrinkles. Same goes to eye massage too.

The reason why I’m using a generous amount is because I believe that my skin is actually dry on the inside. The only chance I get to moisturize my skin is during night time. So I tend to be generous with my moisturizer.

My Thoughts

I’m also using this cream with moderate amount on day time, before makeup and my face doesn’t oil up more or faster than usual eventhough it is a creamy cream. I think I was even more surprised that I don’t get any break out despite using a generous amount on night time. In just a few days time I can see and feel a big improvement with my skin’s oil secretion. I blot lesser, like just once a day? And my makeup stays on without any melting or smudging. I even tried stopping the usage for a few days to see if my face will go back to the original state and it doesn’t :D. I guess my skin is in fact dehydrated.

What can I say…I love it. No wonder it’s loyal fans will buy this in bulk 😉

    • Haha. This one I can afford to buy in bulk LOL. So I don’t mind. Even if it doesn’t suit all the winner, at least I don’t heart ache that much if you secretly throw it away hahahaha. Okay. I think too much 😛

      • Definitely not throwing it away…
My skin has been getting dry recently, mayb bcz of too much aircon and my current moisturizer doesn’t seem to work well unless i slather on a huge dollop (Im currently using Biotherm Aquasource) and very sakit hati when I do that… (I kiamsiap ma…) 😛

        Reply
        • Biotherm not moisturizing enough I think. Use bigger dollop LOL. Usually I slather a lot because I can’t wait to open a new bottle (different brand/type) to try. It’s like a sense of achievement when I finished one product 😛

  • Love affordable skin care that works…my skin is more to dry side is this moisturiser works on dry skin also? I have used their facial wash and body wash it was not bad 🙂

    • Oh yes definitely. It provides all day long moisturizing. It’s not sticky too.

      • Should give this a try, I saw in Watson got promotion member get 50% disc if buy this moisturiser end this 21 October. If not suitable can be use for body 🙂

        Reply
        • Yes they do. Actually this cream is constantly on promo at Himalaya store ;). I think this cream will really suits to be as body lotion. The scent is just too nice.

          • Thx for sharing this and the giveaway 🙂 my skin is sensitive so have to very be careful when introducing new product to my face :(. Will consider this cream….

          • Oh yea. Sensitive skin is a bit tricky. This brand uses only natural ingredient. Should be fine 🙂

  • Wow! That’s cheap! I didn’t thought Himalaya will have such a product. I mean I always thought Himalaya is for body like body scrub and body lotion. Next time I should also consider Himalaya cause 50ml for only RM 15.90 is so worth. Did it absorbed well into skin after apply? I don’t like those product who feel sticky after apply. No break out is a plus!!

You seriously use 3 serums everyday?? hahaha…

I do think people with oily face need moisturizer as well. I myself have oily face but sometime it tends to become dry. like oily + dry, then skin will peel off especially near the lips and cheek area. Sometime some face wash will also cause dryness of the skin. Since now most of us use aircon at night, our skin will become dry too. I do think everyone need moisturiser no matter how’s the skin condition. We just need to find the right one for the skin type we have.

    Reply
    • Trust me, I was shocked too. I think our jaw dropped to the floor haha. My only memory on Himalaya is the slimming pill hehe. It does absorbed well into the skin. This doesn’t feel sticky but it might be oily depending on the amount you use because it’s cream. Sticky only applies to serum, emulsion or gel hehe.
      Cleanser > Toner > FTE > Eye Care > 3 Serums > 1 Moisturizer > Sunblock is a must for me 🙂
Agree with you on the moisturizer. It’s just the matter of which is the right moisturizer 😉

      Reply
      • ok! I’ll check out their store after I finished up my moisturizer. Maybe I can check out their other products as well. Seem like all of their product is so affordable. They invest in their product instead of packaging.

It’s good to have that routine. Sometimes I am just too lazy that I’ll just skip some of it. Cleanser is a must. Sometimes after I wash my face and feel the tightness or dryness, I will definitely use moisturizer. Now i start to trained myself to follow the routine. Using skin care really improve my face condition. So every morning before apply make up, those 4 steps is a must! I skip eye care because my eyes are a little sensitive. I realize I always rub my eyes if I applied eye care.

        Reply
        • You can find a very small selection of Himalaya products at Watsons or Guardians. A proper Himalaya store would have everything :D. Yeap! Himalaya definitely keeping the packaging simple. I never have that tightness or dryness after cleanser. My skin can take every cleanser *touch wood*. I think you have dry skin too.
Don’t rub your eyes too much. You will ended up with fine lines! I learnt it the hard way. Sigh.

          • I think there is one store in Melaka. I always walk pass the store but never walk in. Hopefully it is still there.
haha… I think I have combination type of skin. Oily at the T zone but dry and certain part of the face. 🙁 My problem include pores and acne but now acne seem reducing, most probably due to hormone.
That’s why I’ll apply not so near to face. I notice there are already a few lines at lower eye area 🙁

          • Haha!! Otherwise, Watsons or Guardians is good too :). Just apply dedicated skin care on certain part of the face if you need to. This Nourishing Skin Cream have a cooling effect. So I like it to be on the whole face instead 😀

  • FINALLY!!! a moisturiser perfectly for an extremely oily face like mine. Thanks for reviewing this product.

  • I have the same type of skin too, oily due to dehydration. That’s why I like reading your blog, because I get to know about products that are suitable for myself. 😀 I tend to shy away from products with word cream because often times, they feel much too rich for my skin and cause even more oiliness. But good to know that this cream works well for oily skin. 🙂

I always see the outlet in 1U advertising this cream and I always figured the RM15.90 was a sort of promotion. Honestly, I wouldn’t believe it was that cheap! I’ll give it a try after I finish all my samples. I still don’t know how I accumulated so many. How on earth do you ever finish your lot?

I don’t know if I’ve commented 8 times here but it’s moot point anyway since I don’t have a facebook. Luckily I have a 20% voucher for Himalaya so I’ll definitely be getting this cream!

    Reply
    • Sometimes rich is also good because that will solve the dehydration issue. Try using cream at night moderately before sleep and use a cream-gel / gel for day time. This cream sadly contain a small amount of Mineral Oil so hope you are not allergic to it 🙂

Oh! Actually this is their main product / best seller so they will be recommending this cream more often then other products ;). To be honest I had headache looking at my stash at one point of time. So I do blog sales. The rest I use myself. Slowly these samples is getting lesser and lesser. As for my full sizes, I was even more depressed when I needed to cut down on my skin care. The only thing that I could think of is “how on earth am I going to finish using!” hehehe :). One thing for sure Ashley…you got to start using. On a faster rate lol.

Counting this you have commented 18 times already 😉

  • they have 3 steps from cleanser to moisturizer 🙂 but the day cream is slightly more expansive if compare to the skin cream. isn’t we can actually use the skin cream as daily moisturizer too ~? a bit weird 😀

    Reply
    • They do. One thing about Nourishing Skin Cream is that there is no right or wrong. So it means you can use it as day or night moisturizer or on any part of your hand and body. Some people would prefer to separate their Day and Night cream. So it makes sense to have a separate Day Cream and Night Cream. For example you may just want to use Himalaya Whitening Day Cream for day regime and XXX brand night cream for night regime. It’s not weird at all if you understand the whole skin care philosophy.

Can be quite potong steam that I need to retype..
    Anyway.. last min entry hehe…
This looks great! I am loving thw cute price tag!
Honestly I never know about their skincare although I am a loyal user of their anti hair fall shampoo. Using the third bottle already. Weird coz actually it does nothing to my hair fall problem….
I guess one pf the factor is the herbal scent. That doesn’t linger after washing. I can’t tahan strong scented shampoo.. ie pantene haha.
Ok back to the cream.. I like how it is very basic. Could make a good affordable Christmas gift for my friends too!!

The price is certainly a major push in sales besides the natural ingredients used :). I heard their shampoo is a hit. I have friend who bought bottles and bottles of it.

This post made me realise that I was not officially subscribed to your blog but only to your FB so I’ve fixed that.

I discovered Himalaya recently via Bag of Love. It was the Neem Face Pack and I immediately went out to get the fullsized version. It’s good – makes me look as ugly as hell when I use it but good!
I used my Worthy Book 20% off voucher for it too so it was even more affordable. I am really quite enamoured with the Himalaya brand. Their stuff can smell quite overwhelmingly herbally but they are good value and work as they claim.
Anyway, good luck to those who qualify 🙂

Thanks for subscribing to email notification Jude! Wow. I’ve heard so much on Neem Face Pack. I’m happy that Himalaya went into beauty boxes/bag so that more and more people will know about them. That’s the best way to get people to try your product hehe.
Tell you a secret. I was contacted by Himalaya a few days ago and I will have more surprise for you girls very soon. Oh well my office is just above their office LOL!!

      Reply
      • LOL, you are literally working above the Himalaya team, how cute! I have been using their astringent lotion too and it’s great for my combo skin.
I have heard great stuff about their shampoo and toothpastes. I hope you get to review some of these. I would not have tested their products had I not received my BOL sample. It was the winning product in the bag that time. I wasn’t expecting much but it was one of those few samples that I used up completely and raced to get more of. I am now imagining you running downstairs and testing EVERYTHING :D!!! I’m glad they know they have a power blogger working upstairs from them.

It was quite funny. I said “hey I’m actually on 7th floor, oh I’ll just pop by to grab the stuff” hehe :D. They will give me some vouchers soon. I’ll reserve one for you. It’s for Nourishing Skin Cream 😉

          • No no. Not on top of the whole range. Their office 😛

  • OMG !!!! I HAVE THE EXACT SAME MOISTURIZER AND IM LOVING IT!!!!! it is literally the best thing in the world cos both me and my sister have noticed that my skin has gotten so much softer and just plumpier…… but i really dont recommend using it if you like have an acne problem and have an oily skin ……

  • Stumbled upon your blog when I was searching for this gem of a moisturiser. Come to think of it, I’ve been using this product for almost 4 years straight. It amazes me how good it is. My skin gets dry as soon as I’ve washed my face. If I left it alone, flaking will appear. Then my face will get super oily and the itch factor will arise and make everything worst.

I use it twice a day. One of the equivalents for my skin type is 2.5x the price of this. So the value is really amazing when you thought of it.

Oh btw, I’m a male. Men’s moisturizer is too harsh on me so women’s or unisex equivalent is what I would go for usually.

    Reply
    • Oh my gosh, you reminded me how good this moisturizer is now 😀 . It’s very affordable and super moisturizing. Most of the time I find the value pack of this, either the 50g tub one of the super size one.
Yes men skincare are typically more harsher as men’s skin is more thicker in general. That is why women are not recommended to use the men skincare 😉
