Review: Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion, One Double Agent Product with Two Benefits

Hada Labo is known to me as a brand that utilise hyaluronic acid to achieve a bouncy, healthy and hydrated skin. I think they are the first brand who make applying lotion aka toner using palm application famous with their star product, Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Lotion. Ever since then Hada Labo came out with various skin care that cater to different skin type.

Just recently Hada Labo released a brand new product that are targeted for combination and oily skin type. Right down my alley 🙂 . The Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion that is. I’m guessing this year it’s all about the lotion craze eh?

Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion 1
The bottle is simple yet clean looking and yet sturdy packaging although it’s made from plastic. Mind you it doesn’t feel plasticky at all. It is the same bottle design with Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Lotion, which I like a lot. It comes in a flip-cap instead of a screw-cap. The convenient of it gives me a slight push to be more diligent in using it. Afterall, it’s hassle-free. No reason to be lazy 😛

Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion is a lotion based product for people who have dull and oily skin, especially those that have skin that is prone to acne. I know most people would be wondering what does this Mild Peeling Lotion do. As this is not my first encounter nor am I a peeling lotion first timer, I’m able to get the use of it. In a layman term this is a gentle lotion peeling / scrub product. I have to put “scrub” word next to peeling because many are not too sure what peeling does. It’s similar to scrubs except that this is more a lot milder and you don’t really scrub your skin conventionally and physically. Quite similar to Clarins White Plus HP Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel, which is the first peel product I ever used.

Mild Peeling Lotion is basically colorless and scentless. It has a unique formulation that peels away dull skin and impurities but it also stimulate cell renewal at the same time. Lotion as we all know is also toner in general. The Japanese would prefer the term Lotion than we Asian’s Toner term. Usually scrub products are more on the dry side but this product being a toner at the same time, so it is moisturizing and penetrates deeply into the skin to further hydrate.

Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion 2
The main ingredient used in the formulation of Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion is Gluconic Acid. It’s an ingredient that is naturally found in fruits and honey that works as a mild exfoliant that will soften and remove accumulated dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. As I mentioned before, Mild Peeling Lotion works just like a normal facial scrub. You need to scrub your face at least once a week so that nutrients from any topical skin care you applied later on will be easier to be absorbed into the skin. However, over scrubbing your face will resulted in the other way round. Your skin will change into sensitive skin. I experienced over scrubbing before with normal facial scrub. As a result my face is more oilier than previous. The key to exfoliating dead skin cells from the skin surface is to do it once a week or use a milder product like this Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion.

Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion 3
Hada Labo said that their Mild Peeling Lotion is able to tighten pores, prevent clogged pores, prevent breakout, minimizes fine lines appearance and improves skin elasticity. I don’t have obvious fine lines so I have no comment on that. I still have yet to see this product tightening my pores though. So far I experience no breakout as usual from using Hada Labo products. What I like about this Mild Peeling Lotion is the water-like texture. My current peeling product is more thicker and this one feels like a normal toner.

What I’ve learnt previously using my other peeling product is to leave it on the face for 10 minutes then follow up with a toner to wipe of the impurities. I still practise that even with Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion mainly because I don’t feel comfortable leaving a peeling product on my face. If this is a product that sloughs away dead skin cells, it only make sense to remove it with a toner thereafter. Do take note this is not necessary for Hada Labo Mild Peeling Lotion as the product is non-greasy, pH balanced and free from alcohol, fragrances, mineral oil, colorant, animal derivatives and preservatives. This extra step is just my old habit when it comes to peeling lotion 🙂

  • I do like this product but I don’t use it often, maybe once or twice a week. I agree that over-scrubbing will lead to rather adverse effects as I have experienced it with the Clarisonic in the past.

    • Me too. I only use it twice a week if I remember and once a week if I don’t. Comparing with Clarins this Hada Labo is more milder. Doesn’t feel anything but just like a toner though. Maybe I re-tone again with another toner so I feel alright 😀

  • I have seen this product around and have been itching to try it 🙂 Hada Labo is quite awesome so far for me, from cleanser, lotion to BB cream. So far so good! Their products are priced economically and packaging wise is simple and easy to use. My skin has decided to throw tantrum pre and post CNY. I am keen to try this peeling lotion! Glad that it worked well for you 🙂

    • I think this has been around since a two months ago? Not sure but I remember seeing it. You’re a big fan of Hada Labo! Their products can really be interesting on the shelf. I tend to check them out a lot whenever I’m at Guardians. Gotta love the economical price. My skin is giving me problem too. I don’t eat much during CNY. It’s the weather 🙁

      • Yeah, haha, a proud and happy Hada Labo supporter here 🙂 I saw this on the shelves in Guardian but since I still have my lotion stash, I decided not to spend further only to have the product unused and risk expiring. When I got back from my hometown, I used some masks and also exfoliating mask. That irritated my skin further unfortunately…I then had red patches which looked like sunburn all over my face 🙁 It took me a while to get my skin back to its usual state thanks to EL ANR and Trilogy Rosehip Oil. Hope your skin is getting its groove back 🙂

        • Yeah, there’s no need to stash lotion. You will get this eventually I know since you’re a Hada Labo supporter 😀
Oh gosh that sounds bad! I skip exfoliating mask during CNY. Only hydrating mask since it’s super hot and I needed the “chill” on the face. I suppose you have skin sensitive attack.
I just had a small breakout on my left cheek. It has been soooo hot at home. Now I’m trying something else that target to reduce and prevent blemishes. So far so good 🙂

  • Hi Fiona. If I had to choose between this one and the Clarins one, which would you recommend? I almost bought the Clarins one last month but one Clarins SA told me its being reformulated and another SA told me they are only changing the image of the bottle (for it to be in line with all their other whitening range) and not the contents. So I am trying to make up my mind 🙂

    • Hi Victoria. It depends on what you are looking for. If you want a brightening effect then it’s Clarins. Although Clarins is reformulating the current peel product it won’t be a drastic change. Maybe the ingredient is a bit different. Like previously they used Sea Lily as their core ingredient for White Plus HP, the new White Plus Total Luminescent is more on hydrating so they changed the ingredient to Sandspurry, Ginko Biloba and Hyraluronic Acid but still maintain similar function and benefit.

If you just want a normal peel product then you can try this more affordable version. This is meant for combination to oily skin whereas it also claim to tighten pores and prevent breakouts as well as some anti-aging benefits.

As for texture, Clarins is more thick. This Hada Labo one is just like toner texture 🙂

  • Thanks for the review fiona very informative. I wonder if you ever tried pixiglowtonic, and how do it compares to hada labo. Im itching to try the pixi one but the price is very expensive here inj my country, so im thinking to go for cheaper alternative like hada labo.

    • Hello, nope. Have not tried Pixi Glow Tonic. I find it too expensive even if I do get online from oversea. Hada Labo is the cheapest alternative to a hydrating product though.
