Beauty News: L’OCCITANE Malaysia in “The Fight against Avoidable Blindness”

L’OCCITANE and the L’OCCITANE Foundation have been working hand in hand with many organisations that are dedicated to fighting blindness. In 2006, the L’OCCITANE Foundation was created with two long-term missions: to support the visually-impaired and promote the economic emancipation of women.

Did you know that there are almost 285 million blind or visually-impaired people throughout the world? However, the shocking thing is that 80% of blindness is actually preventable! This problem is especially apparent in low- or medium-income countries, where 90% of the visually-impaired live. So far, more than 1,500,000 people have benefitted from eye care thanks to L’OCCITANE’s efforts to support the blind and visually-impaired.

L'OCCITANE Charity Fundraising For The Blind 2015
Many did not notice or are not aware that all of L’OCCITANE’s product packaging comes with Braille text, which enables them to obtain the best of beauty in its natural state. Everyone deserves the opportunity and convenience to enjoy the feeling of being pampered, and in line with the brand’s philanthropy, L’OCCITANE recognises the importance of making life easier for the visually-impaired. Everyone deserves the gift of sight.

L’OCCITANE Malaysia began its charity for the blind initiative back in 2008 to give back to the local community. The brand works closely with the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) to help improve the lives of the blind and visually-impaired in Malaysia. Since year 2013/2014, L’OCCITANE has also added St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang, to its list of beneficiaries. This year’s theme, “The Fight Against Avoidable Blindness”, will involve raising funds for both MAB and St. Nicholas’ Home. The funds will be channelled into conducting eye screenings and prescribing glasses for those who require attention, among others. Through this initiative, L’OCCITANE Malaysia also hopes to create greater awareness on the roles played by the L’OCCITANE Foundation and L’OCCITANE Malaysia in sight-related charity projects, so that all Malaysians will know more about the causes.

L'Occitane Shea Foot Cream & Tin Box Set
The fundraising hero product for this year’s charity campaign is one of L’OCCITANE’s bestselling products – the Shea Foot Cream & Tin Box Set (RM41). Enriched with 15% nourishing Shea Butter produced by women in Burkina Faso, Africa, the luxuriously rich foot cream also contains Lavender essential oil to purify skin. Arnica extract, with its anti-inflammatory properties, helps reduce redness and irritation. Massaged into the feet, Shea Foot Cream instantly nourishes, soothes and moisturises, leaving behind softer, smoother skin. The special-edition 30ml Shea Foot Cream comes housed in cute reusable tin.

L’OCCITANE Malaysia’s fundraising initiative 2015/2016 will run from 7 October to 31 December 2015. The special-edition Shea Foot Cream & Tin Box set (30ml, RM41) will be available at all L’OCCITANE boutiques nationwide.

  • I’m all in support of this campaign.
I grew up playing and chatting with some visually-impaired folks at Society of the Blind in Brickfields, and I also worked part-time at the National Council for the Blind when I was younger. My lunch mate was a blind family friend, too. And most of these visually-impaired people who had the chance to study, mainly go to St Nicholas.
If you happen to go to Penang, do check out their professionally-trained masseuse and services at a fraction of the normal price, as well as their bakery and weaving-shoppe at the St Nic home/ school itself 🙂
They also home the elderly visually-impaired folks with no family or no where to go.
    Support support! Fully support!

Wow. I didn’t know so much about St. Nicholas. Really thank you for sharing with all of us on the masseuse services, bakery and weaving shop from St Nicholas. This is very informative for us. Thank you! <3

      • My pleasure, dear…
I hope to be able to help promote their services, so that they could become self-sufficient and support themselves and their families.
The visually-impaired are dignified and hard-working, and could support themselves and their families, and I don’t understand why some lazy bums who are NOT ill or handicapped or impaired anywhere, would resort to begging/ leeching off other people.

Whenever I go for foot massage or shoulder massage at Tesco Xtra Cheras (Taman Midah), I’d mostly request for visually-impaired masseuse. They are well-trained and very professional.
For the info of your readers, I am glad to share that St. Nicholas School for the Blind, the Malaysian Association of the Blind (MAB) and National Council for the Blind (NCBM), as well as other registered societies for the blind, finance and organise training for the visually-impaired individuals. 🙂
