I’ve seen it, I’ve heard about it, I’ve read about it and now I’ve gotten my hands on it. The L.A. Girl PRO Conceal HD Concealer is the rave recently in the beauty world. Everyone is talking about it. The more I see it, the more I want it. The catch is that it’s not available in Malaysia or at any online store that ship to Malaysia. There are a lot of pre-order spree on Instagram but you know me, I have zero patience for spree. I happen to stumble upon a seller on Instagram that coincidentally had just received her spree parcel and she have a few extra for ready stock.
The Collection Cosmetics Lasting Perfection Concealer is often said to be the exact dupe of NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, while this L.A. Girl PRO Conceal HD Concealer is claimed by many to be the dupe of MAC Pro Long Wear. Now, I have yet to try the MAC one so I can’t tell you if this L.A. Girl concealer is really the dupe but according to Makeupalley.com, some girls said it’s not. However I find that the bad reviews in Makeupalley is the total opposite of my experience so I’m going to help to clear the air as a first time user of a product that was flown in from another country and tumbling in the box for hours.
First thing first. Choosing the right shade is the hardest of all. The L.A. Girl PRO Conceal HD Concealer comes in 18 shades previously and now the brand had added 6 more new shades into the already large shade selection. I googled for swatches the fastest I can to secure a tube. The lightest shade is Classic Ivory but the swatches and reviews online said it has a pink base to it so I went for the second lightest shade, Natural as it was claimed to be more yellowish.
I kinda like that it comes with a brush applicator. Most people said this type of applicator irks them as it’s unhygienic, the content doesn’t come out despite pressing hard or that the content doesn’t come out properly with oil bursting out of the brush instead of the concealer. Honestly, that doesn’t happen to me at all. I was expecting to get a crappy tube (I’m always unlucky with online purchase) and that oil would burst out so I press hard and the concealer just came out gracefully even with the slightest pinch on the tube. There was no content separation or whatsoever. All are good so far!
Now let’s talk about the shade. Natural is said to have more yellowish base comparing to Classic Ivory and I find that not true at all. I was quite surprised to see a pink base concealer coming out from my tube. On my hand (in real life) it still appears to have a pinkish base to it. When I take a closer look at the concealer, I see a hint of neutral shade in it. Maybe the brand’s yellow base is different from the Japanese others because I find that American base product that has yellow base to it is really muddy yellow. To me this concealer in Natural is a pinkish neutral shade.
The consistency however, I love! It is not oily or too wet, just the perfect consistency and wetness to it that I really like. It’s nothing like I ever used before. I get all giddy up whenever I use this concealer because it is so easy to blend with ring finger. Also something that I don’t encounter with other concealer before. Due to it’s consistency, it dries up very fast. I don’t need to wait for it to set.
I see Youtubers like to go all out with this. So am I! I used to apply a little bit, blend in then reapply when needed because wetter consistency is hard to blend and set. Not with this one. I apply all I want, use my ring finger to tap gently. Within seconds all the concealer are fully blended in. I don’t apply onto both under eye at the same time. I do it one eye then another. Even when the concealer dries up a little bit, I can still manage to blend it out.
Here is the Before and After. This L.A. Girl PRO Conceal HD Concealer is a full coverage concealer. It’s creamy and yet light-weight, long wearing and scentless. I would expect some funky smell but nope. There wasn’t any. It is also said to be a crease-resistant concealer. I have all the under eye wrinkles to test this claim out and I did. At the first few tries, I still see creasing on my under eyes. But that was the powder settling into the wrinkles. After using it for 2 weeks, I have learnt to set my under eye concealer properly and the creasing is now cut down to the minimal. To be frank, I don’t think that any product can prevent creasing. There’s a gap on the skin and product will settle in no matter what. Unless you do the stare look the whole day to prevent folding on the skin hehe! I have now come to the realisation that I will stop worrying myself with creasing.
L.A. Girl PRO Conceal HD Concealer finishes to matte. My under eye pretty much stays oil-free the whole day. I also find that the concealer despite being matte, it doesn’t dehydrate my skin. It actually looks pretty good and plump. It stays on even with me cleaning up the under eye several times in a day due to mascara smudging. Overall I have major love for this 😀
Due to the hint of pink in the concealer, I don’t use it to conceal dark spots on my face. For that I use Catrice Allround Concealer Palette. Just in case you’re wondering 🙂
