For the past few months I’ve been doing my eye makeup in the office. That means I have all the longer time (not too long otherwise my boss will kill me when he read this heh!) to draw eyeliner. With no rushing, no traffic jam to stuck with…I can have a more peaceful mind to practice my drawing skill. You know I’m really bad at eyeliner right? I still do!

So what I’m doing here? Let’s put it this way. I experiment with different eyeliner style a lot and I finally found a quick and simple way to draw eyeliner that I want to share with you. Once again disclaimer. This is just my own sharing. I’m no makeup guru or expert so most prolly I’m not as good as some expert you 🙂

Make Up Tips 23
What I like about this method is that you can practically use all types of eyeliner makeup that you can get i.e. liquid, gel, crayon, pencil and gel. If I need to recommend it would be liquid eyeliner for this. Because I have happiness tear problem I would prefer gel pencil aka gel eyeliner in a pencil form. What exactly is happiness tear? Basically I “cry” when I’m talking to someone or even when I’m laughing, smiling or even just nodding with a smile while talking to someone. It’s really bothering me a lot as the other party may think they upset me or something. It’s insane to continue smiling and nodding with the “winged” eyeliner melted at the outer corner of the eye lol!!

Let’s start. This would be one easy tutorial as everything is with large thumbnail pictures + point form explanation.

(1) Decide on what type of eyeliner to use. In this tutorial I’m using CLIO Gelpresso Pencil Gel Liner #Golden Black No.5. CLIO doesn’t have black and the darkest and nearest to blackest black would be Golden Black 🙂
(2) Draw a line from inner to outer corner. If you are new to this, just draw a smaller stroke. CLIO gelpresso is creamy so it’s easier to draw in a single stroke.
(3) Just in case you wonder why my line are thin, well it’s not. Normally I drew a thicker line as my crease are hidden when my eyes are open (the other eye which is not in the picture).
(4) Draw a “tick” at the end corner. The thickness of the “tick” should not be too thick or long.

Make Up Tips 24
(5) Fill in and connect the whole line with the “tick” earlier. The eyeliner shape is now beginning to take place and look better. But we are not done yet.
(6) Drag the end of the line further out say around 1-2mm longer to get that “winged” effect. If the end tip is too thick and harsh, use a cosmetic cotton bud to clean off some of the liner. Why 1-2mm? This tutorial is not about cat eye winged eyeliner. This is a much more natural eyeliner which suits everyone.
(7) If you notice picture no. (6), the area near the eye lash root (waterline) is still looking white. Use a finger to gently lift up the lid and fill in the waterline.
(8) Voilà! Eye is now more defined and darker.

Here’s another tip. Do you have a problem where your eyeliner is transferred on the eyelash curler? I get that too. What I do is to wait for the eyeliner to dry/set before using eyelash curler. I discovered this solution one day when I stopped to check and reply my work email before proceeding to eyelash curler and mascara. I find that there’s no transfer at all. It works for me and I do hope it works for you too 🙂

Drawing eyeliner has never been this easy now. What’s your secret to a perfect winged eyeliner? Do share with me your method. I’d love to know 🙂

To be frank I’m not good with eyeliner. I started to really draw my eyeliner somewhere last year. To see my friends with perfect eyeliner on (but without any makeup on mind you) makes me jealous. But it is true when people said “practice makes perfect”. I was determined to draw everyday. Day by day the time taken is shorten and appears more natural. Gel eyeliner is tricky to me at first but then I find that it’s also the easiest to use.

Recently a friend of mine told me about this eyeliner brand CLIO. I remember this eyeliner because I spent RM20 at Watsons and I was asked if I would want to purchase a mini set. I never heard of CLIO before and I’m not that good with eyeliner so I didn’t buy it. After finding out that CLIO Gelpresso Pencil Gel Liner is better than Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, I find myself searching for this mini set.

The mini set that I bought comes with 5 different shade of pencil gel liner.

Clio1
I like the metal case that hold all 5 mini pencil. If I need to bring the pencil out I would just throw the whole case in my bag. This product is made in Korea thus the Korean description at the back of the metal case.

Clio2
While the metal case is quite good quality unfortunately I couldn’t say the same for the pencil though. The cap is hard to pull off and twisting the lead out is a challenge. It doesn’t twist smoothly at all. Each pencil’s lead are 45mm long. Quite reasonable length for a miniature.

What I like about this miniature set is that you get to try 5 different shades instead of buying a full size one by one. If you are already an avid user this is not really for you unless you want it as collection. This is more for newbies. Like me *cough*. Plus I always like a miniature. They are a cutie!

Clio3
Here is the swatch on my hand. It is absolutely creamy and pigmented. It glides on oh-so-smoothly but doesn’t leave a transfer on the lid. I have oily lids and if I don’t apply any eyeshadow on there will be a color transfer on the crease for other eyeliner. With this I don’t get that provided I properly prime and powder my lid should I decide to skip eyeshadow.

Now, although it is creamy and glides on like a dream…it doesn’t smudge and removed that easily after it completely dries down. I notice that I can still correct any error when I just applied it but once I left it for a few minutes it is completely dry to touch. The concept is the same with gel eyeliner – work fast! No wait. This IS gel liner! Just because it comes in a stick I kept on forgetting that 🙂

Golden Khaki and Golden Black is quite similar. The only difference is Golden Khaki has a slight green in it. Golden Black is actually quite dark.

At first glance Beige Shine is the color I wouldn’t want to wear but later on I find that it’s the most beautiful color in the set. It is great for inner corner of the eyes. Really shiny.

Clio4
As this is mini version I don’t have the sharpener to sharpen the lead. If you have any crayon liner that comes with a detachable sharpener…use that to sharpen it. At first I was scratching head on how to draw the fine line at the end. The it hit me. This gel liner is soft and creamy so perhaps I can run my angled eyeliner brush on it. It works like a charm.

So if you are having the same problem as me, here’s a tip on how to draw the fine line / wing at the end. Run any angled eyeliner brush on the lead tip and winged your eyeliner with it!

I thought of showing you how it look like on me. I have hidden lid so most eyeliner don’t show up well on me lol. It gave me a more deep looking eye without looking like I’m too dolled up. In the below look I was too lazy to do my eyeshadow on that day so I whipped out Star Purple No.3. I use UDPP to prep my lid and applied a thin layer of loose powder over it with an eyeshadow brush. I went home with the eyeliner that was pretty much the same as I had it on in the morning. Amazing.

Clio5
Here is another look I did with Dark Choco No.4. It was another lazy day but I decided to swipe on some brown on the lid with pearl white highlight below brow bone after that.

Clio6
I have tearing issue on my right eye especially so when I’m tearing while doing my eye makeup, it is impossible for me to draw on eyeliner regardless liquid, pencil or gel. I know there are certain brand of liquid eyeliner that tells you that their product works even for people with such issue. Let me just tell you it’s only sales gimmick. THIS my friend, is really the one eyeliner that I can still draw on even when I am tearing. The color sticks on even when corner eyes are with tears. When it sets and my eye continue to tear the eyeliner still stay put throughout the day. It’s a good news for me.

After using CLIO Gelpresso Pencil Gel Liner for a few weeks I know why it’s a favorite. It is indeed good and oily lid people can now have something on that doesn’t smudge. My advise for long lasting smudge-free and transfer-free is to apply primer in advance and lightly powder on top. This will keep the oil at bay at least.

CLIO Gelpresso Pencil Gel Liner Mini Set is available at Watsons outlets.
Price: RM79.90 for a box of 5 miniature.
