You heard me right. I have wonky hair lately ever since I undergo L’Oreal Professionnel HAIRchalk. Don’t worry. HAIRchalk is fine. Just that the patches I have is larger thus the unusual dryness on the hair. Every night I applied generous amount of L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil) on damp hair and on the next morning but my hair is still dry. My hair just drinks up to Mythic Oil!

Then Kérastase Cristalliste came to the rescue. My hair loves it so much that I must tell you how amazeball these product is. No more wonky hair 😀

Kerastase Cristalliste 2

Kérastase Cristalliste Luminous Perfecting Masque (RM136 / 200ml)

Now, I know hair masque is not suppose to be used daily but my case is exceptional. The weird thing is I no longer suffer from sensitive and dry scalp as that has turned to a complete different scenario. I have dry hair that is totally unmanageable. My hair was so wonky that I have puffy hair style all the time, which is rare because my hair is usually silky straight. I was kinda happy as any hair style I had on stay put. But on the other hand I can’t even comb through my hair. It was that badly dry.

I’ve tried all hair masque at home but all fails. It’s really odd as those used to work on my normal hair. That was until I used this Kérastase Cristalliste Luminous Perfecting Masque.

Kerastase Cristalliste Luminous Perfecting Masque 4
First thing that I notice is the strawberry, shimmery pink cream. So lovely and girly. The smell is amazing. It smells like candy to me but not sweet. My nose also pick up some floral scent.

So what this hair masque do is to nourishes and protects the hair while making it more luminous and shiny. This is the first step in treating my dry hair and it gives back shine to my dull hair. Almost instantly I can run my fingers through my hair, which I haven’t been able to do so in days.

Kerastase Cristalliste Luminous Perfecting Masque 5
This hair masque is like a pearlescent cream. The cream is enriched with Dry Oil to intensely nourish the hair by forming a smooth layer of film over each strands of hair. The formula is also infused with Candelilla Cera, which is a wax-like texture to coat the hair fibre and Ceramide, to fill in damaged hair cuticles. Sound like the right ingredients for my hair 😀

Most people are afraid that hair masque will drag their hair length down but not this one. It also contain Polymer that adds body to the hair. To be frank I don’t see any oiliness or extra weight on the hair after using the hair masque. All I know is my hair loves this one and they “listen” to the products very well.

That’s the ground work. What I have next is the saviour to my dry hair.

Kerastase Cristalliste Luminous Perfecting Masque 6

Kérastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum (RM82 / 30ml)

I don’t know about you but this Kérastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum reminds me of double serum skin care. Packaging might be similar but in fact this is a double serum for the hair.

Of the duo, this Kérastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum is the first product I picked up and use immediately after shampooing my hair the same night I received it. Unlike hair masque, I do have a habit of using hair serum every night after shampoo without fail. My hair was damaged previously so I realised the importance of keeping the hair length as alive as the top root.

Kerastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum 4
This product’s unique characteristic is its dual-action effectiveness. Although Kérastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum is a double serum, it only comes in a single pump with two dispense nozzle hole. I find the pump to be a bit hard to press down but I get used to it after a few times. The bottle is semi-milky color so I can still see the two different serum tube holder on the inside.

Kerastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum 5
Kérastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum dispense out in two different serum with two different color. One serum is to repair the hair and another is a gloss to add shine to the hair.

I learnt that this serum contain AHA. This ingredient is often known and used more in skin care but also beneficial in strengthening the interior of the hair fibre. When both serum is mixed up, the “mirror-like” texture acts as a light reflector gloss by smoothing the hair fibre, while Ceramide fills in the gap on the hair surface

On the first usage, I used three full pumps of Kérastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum onto my damp hair. I waited for my hair to dry and I was amazed with how less puffy my hair is even on first use only. I can even comb my hair and run my fingers through when it’s dry. I realized how much I miss my smooth straight hair.

Kerastase Cristalliste Dual Sculpting Serum 6
I’ve been using both product diligently every single day with generous amount to tame down all the frizzy and dry hair. Eventhough I see positive result even on first use, I was determined to revive my hair back to it’s normal state. After just less than a week, I’m happy with the state of my hair, although not fully smoothen out yet but I was so happy to be able to ditch that wonky hair especially the hair on the top of my head. They are no longer frizzy and unmanageable.

I think I mentioned this before :D. My hair is considered the less problematic one and I don’t really have to spend time and pay a lot of attention to it. I do suffer occasional hair loss and dandruff due to stress but that comes and go. Then…my scalp took a 180 degree turn six months ago. Out of the sudden I suffer from sensitive scalp. My scalp became so dry that it flakes. Flaky scalp and dandruff is different. If you find white bits on your shoulder, that is flaky scalp not dandruff. Treating flaky scalp with hair care for dandruff doesn’t help but make things worse. Not only did I suffer from flaky scalp. My scalp is red, painful and veins are visible.

Before I knew the difference between flaky scalp with dandruff, I was treating my problem with hair care for dandruff. Not only it doesn’t cure my problem, it make things worse. I was in a red, painful scalp for a few months before I knew what went wrong. I visited my usual hair salon for a hair cut and my stylist told me that my scalp is actually sensitive and dry. She suggested that I use hair care for sensitive scalp, not anything else. I was introduced to Kérastase Dermo-Calm range.

Kerastase12
According to Kérastase, hair beauty is determined within the scalp. That is why Kerastase created Dermo-Calm range for sensitive and stressed scalps.

Kérastase Specifique Bain Vital Dermo-Calm Hypoallergenic Hydra-Soothing Shampoo (RM78 / 250ml)

I am lucky to have a hair stylist that only recommend product that I need and that is suitable for my condition. She introduced me this range but did not ask me to buy everything in the range. Instead she told me I only need the shampoo to cure my problem. Her advice? “Use for one whole month with nothing else”.

This innovative shampoo is designed to soothe sensitive scalps. I guess you already know that :D. It provides the hair with a gentle yet effective cleanse. How it works is that it calm all the irritation and at the same time prevent itching. Sensitive scalp do have itchy scalp. Which is why the redness doesn’t goes off. Kérastase said that this shampoo is created to keep the hair moisturized, shiny and super soft, while feeling both refreshed and rejuvenated.

Kerastase13
The bottle design is unique, which is the signature Kérastase design. When my stylist showed me this shampoo, I was happy because the color is already looking promising. The bottle might looked a bit small but in fact it is not. Each bottle contain 250ml, which is a lot as you don’t really need a lot each wash. It doesn’t comes with a pump so dispensing the right amount of shampoo is a bit tricky. There are times I accidentally poured out too much of shampoo so yeah, do pay attention when you are pouring the shampoo.

Kerastase14
Not only the bottle is in ocean blue color, so does the shampoo itself. Below is roughly the amount of shampoo I used for each wash. What I do is I pour the shampoo on to my palm, lather with both palm and massage onto wet hair. This shampoo doesn’t lather much on palm. But when in contact with wet hair, it lather just like normal shampoo.

The smell is amazing. It doesn’t leave any oily residue behind and rinsed off very clean, leaving me with fresh and light-weight hair. It cleans well but doesn’t dry my scalp. As my sensitive scalp was quite bad, it took me nearly a month to calm the scalp down. Slowly, bit by bit I can see the redness is gone especially the redness all over the front of my head. The flaky scalp is also reduced bit by bit. When flaky scalp is reduced, itchy scalp is also reduced. Now I am about 80% cured. There is still a bit of flaky scalp to handle.

Kerastase15
Here is the ingredient list for Kérastase Specifique Bain Vital Dermo-Calm Hypoallergenic Hydra-Soothing Shampoo.

Kerastase16
I was overwhelmed when I was sent with two treatment product from Dermo-Calm range to try.

Kérastase Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm Intense Scalp Soothing Serum (RM82 / 50ml)

I wasn’t advised to apply anything directly on to the scalp for one month so that I don’t stress my scalp any further. When my sensitive scalp was getting better, I can now use this. Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm Intense Scalp Soothing Serum is designed to soothe the scalp and give the hair an unbeatablely soft texture that lasts. It is suitable to be used on sensitive scalps and although the range is for sensitive scalp, it is also suitable for all hair types. Kérastase said that this serum will help to relax the scalp and give the scalp some much needed TLC 🙂

Kerastase17
The serum comes in a glass dropper bottle. Reason behind the dropper bottle is because you will need to apply the serum section by section directly onto the scalp. It is quite tricky to gauge the right amount to use because it wasn’t stated in the instruction. I guess you will need to use it regularly to get the preferred suitable amount for your liking and scalp suitability.

Kerastase18
The serum is quite runny, unlike Kérastase Initialiste which is more solid. Intense Scalp Soothing Serum smells amazing too. After a few application I finally get the right amount for my scalp. I use 3/4 full dropper, dispensing onto my scalp by section from the front to the back of my scalp. Usually 3/4 dropper amount is sufficient for me. After that I used all 10 of my fingers and massage the serum into my scalp.

Intense Scalp Soothing Serum is so light that it doesn’t leave any oily residue on the scalp. I know some people might be worried that this will make the scalp oily the next day or weight the hair down but I experience none of those on my scalp. It practically dries down as if I didn’t apply anything.

Using this serum accelerate the speed recovery for my sensitive scalp. Sometimes I forget to use this serum and I ended up with itchy scalp the next morning. Which means it does help with soothing the scalp :D. Love this.

Kerastase20
Here is the ingredient list for Kérastase Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm Intense Scalp Soothing Serum.

Kerastase19

Kérastase Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm Soothing Calming Masque (RM136 / 200ml)

One thing about Kérastase is that they have a hair masque for each different range. This Sensidote Dermo-Calm Soothing Calming Masque is a wash off hair masque treatment to soothe the scalp leaving the scalp feeling soft, fresh and clean. But of course it’s main benefit is to relieve the scalp from irritation. This masque is an intensive treatment that gives scalp immediate effects. Kérastase said that the scalp will feel cool, soothed and fresh whilst the hair will have a boost of silky soft texture that lasts.

Kerastase21
This hair masque comes in a huge tub. The masque itself is in a pale green color. There is no spatula or whatsoever. Basically you just dunk your fingers in and scoop the masque out each use :D. Always remember to dry your hands before doing so. You wouldn’t want to end up with a pool of water in the tub :D. The amount to use is depending on your hair length and preferred amount. As this is for the scalp so I apply the masque directly onto the scalp by massaging in before spreading all over the hair.

Kerastase22
As you know, hair masque is more thicker than conditioner. Conditioner is only to be applied on the hair length without touching the scalp. Soothing Calming Masque is a hair masque in Specifique Sensidote Dermo-Calm range specifically for those that suffer from sensitive scalp, but otherwise it is also suitable for other hair type.

Whenever I apply a big chunk on the scalp, I ended up with oily scalp. After a few trial and error, I found the right way to use this. What I do is I scoop out a small amount and spread onto both palm. Using finger combing method, slowly bit by bit I comb the masque into my scalp. Then I scoop out a generous amount of masque and apply all over the remaining hair length. I find that this way works better for me. After rinsing my hair remain soft and smooth even up till the next day. Personally I would prefer this over conditioner as masque provide better treatment and moisture for my scalp and hair. It smells equally good too.

I use this masque at least 2 times a week. I would usually skip using conditioner whenever I’m using this masque. Like I said, I prefer the effect from masque than conditioner 😀

Kerastase23
I have tried numerous hair care to treat my severe sensitive scalp and flaking issue but none works. I am glad that I turn to my stylist for recommendation and bought Kérastase to try. The brand really does live up to it’s reputation and product claim. At first I didn’t see any difference from the shampoo treatment so I thought it didn’t work for me. I realized that I will need to be patient and give it some time. Afterall my scalp sensitively is quite bad.

Have you tried anything from Kérastase before? I know there has been a few boxes that give out Kérastase in their box. It is definitely a good move to let more and more people try out their products 😀

Kérastase Specifique Dermo-Calm Range is available at all authorised salons nationwide.

I talked about taking care of the face a lot and occasionally the hair but just like millions of women around the world I neglected my scalp. I don’t know about you but I actually thought shampoo, treatment or even hair masque is also taking care of my scalp. It’s not wrong to be misleaded that way because these product are being marketed as “scalp care” as one of the benefit. Boy I was so wrong. There are so many hair care brand in the market regardless premium, drugstore brand or even supermarket brand but none of them come out with a product especially designed for the scalp. That was before, until Kérastase took the first step to come out with Initialiste; the Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate.

Kerastase1
Kérastase said that Initialiste is the first advanced concentrate hair serum to impulse the growth of stronger, shinier hair and more youthful hair. It is made with native plant cells that acts at the very base. So hair grow stronger and more radiant.

Existing Hair – Regenerative Complex maintain the follicle stem sell environment.
New Hair Growth – Growth is healthier as the hair source is stimulated.

The heavy luxe bottle is made from glass that fits on the palm nicely. The clumsy me have not drop the bottle on the floor (yet) all thanks to the weight on the palm.

Kerastase2
Using Initialiste is not as complicated as I think. According to Anderson; the Education Executive of Kérastase Malaysia, the steps should be:

(1) Wash your hair and towel-dry.
(2) There will be 4 parting involved. Part your hair, pump a full pipette and apply half pipette along the line.
(3) Repeat Step (2) for 2nd parting.
(4) Pump another full pipette, repeat the steps for the balance 2 parting.
(5) Using all 10 finger tips of both hand, massage in the serum onto scalp to evenly distribute the serum. Start from the bottom, from outer to inner. Work your way up and repeat as necessary.
(6) This is important. Blow dry your hair using hair dryer.
(7) NO RINSING REQUIRED.

Kerastase3
The instruction on the usage is not as detail as the one on the back of the outer box as well as on the insert included. I would suggest you to read that two before using to get a clearer idea.

Honestly speaking I find that the usage is troublesome for my lifestyle. Let me tell you why. I normally let my hair dry naturally as I was told since I was young that blow drying too much will causes the hair to turn yellow. This may or may not be true, I’m not sure but it has been a habit of mine personally. Secondly after I bath I would be sitting in front of my laptop…blogging. I would be totally into what I was doing such as editing pictures and post crafting. I really don’t have the time to apply, massage and the most troublesome of all…blow drying with hair dryer. I did ask Anderson if I can skip this but he said Initialiste work it’s best with such method. So I comply with the recommended method for the whole month. No doubt my blogging concentration was disrupted but no regret at all. I’ll show you the end result and you will understand why 🙂

Kerastase4
Anyhow a how-to-apply video is more understandable and I’ve include below so that you can get a better understanding on the application process.

Kérastase Initialiste comes with a long glass pipette. My new bottle doesn’t seems to be as full as I think because one pipette pump is only 1/4 of the pipette. But I wasn’t worried because that 1/4 pipette amount is sufficient for 2 parting 🙂

Kerastase5
The serum is lightweight and slightly opalescent milky white color. The scent? OH MY GOD. It smells so freshly good that I wanted to apply on my whole head! It is quite watery, some may feel that this is sticky but on me it’s not despite the fact that my scalp will oil up by mid of the day. Anderson; the Education Executive of Kérastase Malaysia did mention that it is a must to blow dry the hair using hair dryer for that voluptuous effect to take place. I guess that is what helps with the absorption of the hair serum.

Kerastase6
In the Initialiste formulation the totally new regenerative complex gather powerful active agents that act at the hair source.

Native plant cells taken from Malus Domestica maximise the vitality of the hair follicle and are paired with Gluco-Lipids (SP94) that act on the hair’s outer sheath where the two stem cell reservoir are found. The “Lipid” part strengthen the outer sheath of the follicle, while the “Gluco” part is a reservoir of energy that aids cellular metabolism.
Antioxidant polyphenols protect the stem cell environment from oxidative stress (pollution, UV, etc.).
Ceramides mimic the ceramides that are naturally present in the hair components, and strengthen the resistance and cohesion of the hair fibre.

Here is the ingredient list for those that are interested.

Kerastase7
So when or which step to implement Kérastase Initialiste in?

“Bathe, Treat, Texturize” are the three steps in the Kérastase beauty ritual. Initialiste completes the process by stimulating the growth of radiant hair. Apply and leave in Initialiste right before styling to maximize the beauty ritual for unparalleled results. This is the most complete Kérastase haircare product to treat all the parameters of the beautiful hair.

Screen Shot 2013-05-30 at 10.38.06 PM
Now, the most interesting part in this 1,250 words review is the Before and After. The “Before” picture was taken before I started on Initialiste. As you can see my hair was limp especially on the crown and on the top of the back of my head. It doesn’t help when the gap on my parting is really huge. My hair drop is kind of seasonal. On good days I get normal hair drop amount when I comb my hair after towel-dry. There will be certain time in a year where my hair drop amount is more than usual. I didn’t start Initialiste immediately after I was given a bottle mainly because I was happy with my hair condition that time. Then the seasonal drop happens and I used Initialiste right away.

Kerastase8
* Image taken from paultan.org Facebook page

And, here is the after. Roughly about 2 – 3 days after I started on Initialiste, the hair drop is lessen by 50%. You have no idea how happy I was at that time. I was really getting worried back then because this time the seasonal hair drop duration seems longer. My hair also doesn’t break that easily. I am very satisfied with the whole hair drop issue. And the parting also seems fuller with hair, not because I have new hair growth but the hair is more voluptuous.

Kerastase9

Kerastase11
I was often ask what is the product that I would recommend to treat hair fall. My recommendation has always been the shampoo, conditioner, treatment and hair masque targeted for hair fall. Now with the new Kérastase Initialiste, I can now recommend this too. After it’s launch into the Malaysia market it has been flying off the shelf of hair salons. Afterall it is the first hair and scalp serum to impulse the growth of stronger, more brilliant, more beautiful hair.

Kerastase10

Kérastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate is available at all authorised salons nationwide.
Price: RM180 for 60ml

Disclaimer: Product was given to me as door gift during Kérastase Initialiste launch and pampering session. This doesn’t affect my judgement in the review in any way.
