Review: Jumping Into The Bandwagon of L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil)

I finally got my hands on the iconic L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil) which is suitable for all hair types!

After reading and reading all the good reviews about Mythic Oil I was desperate to get one. With RM100 Zalora cash voucher on hand I browse through Zalora Malaysia site and dang! they only have oil for colored hair and milk which I heard will wear the hair down. So I keep my eyes peeled on Zalora site until a few weeks later my friend told me they FINALLY listed one bottle, that’s right just ONE bottle of L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil). I rushed home and purchased it right away.

My L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil) arrived just 3 days later and I was so excited that I used it on the same day 🙂

According to L’Oreal, this nourishing oil is suitable to be used on all hair types. What I read from various review blogs is that the oil is light and not the heavy oily type. It is made from a blend of avocado oil and grape seed oil. Both are good ingredients by the way.

What L’Oreal claim is that your hair will be instantly more supple, tamed and glossy. It also gave the hair a lightweight feel and finishing. Hmmm, interesting. The oil will instantly absorbed in too meaning the oil doesn’t sit on the hair for long.

Here is the list of ingredients for those that are interested. Oh did you see that? L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil is made in Spain!

Let’s go through the bottle shall we? I LOVE the golden yellow color of the bottle. Anything goldish like this will get my attention. The bottle itself is quite sturdy with a dense pump attached to it. I like the simple Moroccan motive print on the side to spice the overall bottle design simplicity up.

The oil itself squirts out clear and runny just like baby oil. When I was with my wavy hair I need at least 2 pumps each application. Sometimes I add another 1 pump after that just to make sure all the oil gets to my hair. Now that I’m back to my straight hair a pump of this is more than enough to tame the ends.

I managed to take some photos of Before and After juuusssttt before I left to see my hair stylist to straighten my hair.

You know how I need to apply lots of styling products after every shampoo right? If I top up with L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil), I get a nicer, tamer, shinier hair. But sometimes I get too lazy to do so much for the hair I just use this oil alone. I woke up with loose curl that looked slightly dry with no signs of L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil) used previously which is quite normal as this absorbed in right away leaving no oily trace on the hair surface. What I didn’t like about using this L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil) alone on permed hair is that it tamed the hair ends too much that my curl are almost straighten up. It looked more manageable no doubt. I would only recommend this to be used on top of other styling product to give a boost and lift. If you have perm hair like mine you might get a “tamed” hair like my After picture if you used it alone.

Like I said earlier I went for hair straightening (not rebonding) with relaxer cream and treated with L’Oreal Professional Steam Pod. Yeap! Now I’m back to my straight hair. The only different is that my hair parting is changed to the right. When I was with straight hair before I went for a digital perm back in March 2012 my hair parting is on the left.

Straight hair are more easier to managed but it can get frizzy at times. I would normally use a pump of L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil (Nourishing Oil) just before I left my house. It gave my shiny hair even more glossy look and pretty much makes my hair so much easier to manage throughout the whole day. Seriously I think this is more suitable for straight hair! Just look at my happy face! LOL!!!

  • 2 full pumps are usually more than enough for the whole head, or rather, hair. Your hair will be more than tamed; it could end up looking limp. I only use half pump for my hair. Too much of it, my hair becomes limp and has a slick/wet look. On a side note, your hair might go back to its original condition (e.g. frizzy etc) when you stop using it.

    • Thank you for your input but so far I experience none of those. I’m using 1 pump because I massage the oil into my hair so half a pump is not enough for me. I don’t use this oil everyday and eventhough so it doesn’t go back to frizzy state. Maybe my hair is not frizzy enough to experience that. I guess I’m lucky with this Mythic Oil?

      • Re frizzy hair. According to my stylist, it happens to some people, not all, after stop using the oil. Maybe it’s the original hair condition. I have baby hair standing up, doesn’t matter I use the oil or not. Haha.

        • Baby hair standing up is normal babe. Cause it’s short and light-weight. I have tons of that on the top of my head haha.

I guess use the oil moderately / according to your hair condition.

  • Hehe, the name itself is quite intriguing – Mythic Oil 🙂 I am using L’oreal Elseve Anti-Frizz Serum. Actually I dislike using oil products for my hair due to the limp or slick effect. But I have fine and frizzy hair. Haha, I also have a head full of baby hair. Maybe I will try this Mythic Oil next.

    • Most hair oil nowadays absorbed in right away so you won’t feel the oil sitting on the hair :). Best applied on damp hair so the next morning when you woke up your hair is airy, fluffy without the oiliness haha.
