Since CNY is just around the corner and I’m already on leave so I thought I’d wake up earlier to do this makeup tips post. I have been wanting to post this up months ago but just didn’t have the time. This is a tips from Adrian Sin; Burberry and RMK Beauty Trainer which I picked up at RMK makeover last year. It is simple and yet useful and versatile for everyday wear that I’ve been implementing to my daily makeup myself.

Before I start I must mention a disclaimer in advance as I know some of you can be quite judgmental and harsh. I’m no makeup expert, this is a tips that I picked up personally from a makeup guru which I think is worth to be share to you guys as I had the privilege to meet and had my makeup done by Adrian not once but twice. And during numerous encounter with Adrian I managed to get some pointers, tips and tricks from him.

Ready?

I’m not going to talk about prep-ing your face with skin care or base makeup. I assume you guys are expert now. I’m just going to jump directly to the main topic which is using pencil eyeliner as eye makeup base.

Prior before that I prep my lid with Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP in short). I’ve been using this since last year and a tube really last long. Normally I would dust some loose powder on top of UDPP as I find that eyeshadow will crease-free longer. UDPP is not that effective for me by the way. Totally up to you if you want to dust with loose powder or not. I need it and you may not.

MUTips14_1
(1) Take your favorite pencil eyeliner. I used to use Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil #01 Onyx which is a dark crayon eye pencil. But today I decided to use Guerlain Eye-Liner & Kohl which I bought a few months ago.
Just apply pencil eyeliner on the lid. Crayon eye pencil are easier to smudge so totally up to you how high you want to apply. For me I just need to line a thick line. Don’t worry about unevenness or if it’s not perfect.

P/S: Look at how smooth my under eye after StriVectin-TL™ 360° Tightening Eye Serum!

(2) After that smudge the eyeliner with a pencil brush or whichever brush that works for you. I’m using Ecotools Smudge brush. It’s small but not too small. Smudge the eyeliner upwards towards the crease. Once again don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect.

(3) Apply eyeshadow over the lid like usual. Here I’m using Burberry Beauty Complete Eye Palette # Pink Taupe No.07. All the unperfected eyeliner will automatically become natural and doesn’t look crooked as before. Don’t worry about applying the shadow on top of the eyeliner. You’re suppose to apply over the eyeliner.

(4) This step is not necessary but I did it anyway to show you how intensify it will do to your eyes with this step. Plus it’s easier to do eyeliner after Step 1-3 as it doesn’t have to be perfect lol. In this step I did the usual 1-line eyeliner using the same Guerlain Eye-Liner & Kohl.
After that continue to do tightlining, line your lower eyelash and apply some pearl white eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eyes follow by mascara on both upper and lower eyelashes.

The end result. My eyelid are the hidden type cause I think I have huge round eyeball haha! I know you can’t see properly here but fret not. I’ve include more pictures below.

Here is the 3-view look. Click on the image for larger version. From this 3-view photo you can see that the black base is actually a lot darker than the Step 1-4 picture. It’s the lighting 🙂

I absolutely like this tips from Adrian. Not only that I can skip eyeliner when I’m feeling lazy or when I don’t have enough time to properly do an eyeliner, this simple step also makes my eyes larger and intensify the look of it. I notice that as the hours went by the black base became more natural as if it’s more blended with the eyeshadow.

A cheap find at Kanebo Warehouse Sales early this year changed my perception about liquid eyeliner. I only have one liquid eyeliner at the moment while I had tossed away the rest after I bought this. I was told Coffret D’or is retrieving from Malaysia market and will only concentrate on Lunasol which is on the higher range. Coffret D’or in Japan is considered lower range but sells quite expensive in Malaysia previously. The brand has 2 type of liquid eyeliner. One which is non-refillable while another one is refillable. I decided to purchase the non-refillable one since Coffret D’or is retrieving from Malaysia anyway. What if I fell in love with it but couldn’t find the refill anywhere? Wouldn’t it be devastating?

For eyeliner I’d prefer Black color. No exception for Kanebo Coffret D’or Natural Clear Liner which I’ve gotten a BK-28. I never understand Kanebo’s product color code especially the numbering at the back.

The tube is a shiny, silver, mirror long and slim tube. I’m always attracted to this type of packaging as it looked much more nicer than color tube. Just my preference 🙂

What I like about this liquid eyeliner beside the tube is the super fine tip. I’ve been using this for so many months on and off now that the fine tip stays intact. I see no sign of deform so far.

Although stated as Black liquid eyeliner…the color payoff is not that Black at all. If I put this for too long the color came out quite watery and uneven. It’s like the black ink is separated from water, if you get what I mean. But nothing can’t be solve with a simple shake of the tube :). Before I use normally I’d shake the tube vigorously although I’m unsure if it helps or not. I suppose it helps as I get more thicker color from them tip instead of watery black.

With the super fine tip I can easily create a thin line. I like my liner to be slightly thicker since I have small eyes. Duh Asian!! The liner doesn’t “feather” out which is good. Some liner when you swatch on the hand it feathered. God knows what will happen when it’s on the eye. This one? Not at all. The color is buildable which I like. I can layer until I’m happy with how the Black turns out.

I’ve been neglecting Kanebo Coffret D’or Natural Clear Liner for quite some time as my right eye tear for no reason. Recently I took it out to use as I wanted to practice my skill using a liquid eyeliner. And I tear lesser nowadays after using Eye Mo Moist everyday. I’m quite happy that the liquid eyeliner works perfectly still and I’m much better drawing eyeliner now. I had been trying out different style of eyeliner and I found one that I like and it’s also the one that I can draw better 🙂

When I look down or close my eyes you can hardly see a thick eyeliner on my lid.

But in fact I had the liner winged out. Sorry for the messy sides and crocked line. Didn’t managed to clean it before snapping away! I prefer this type of eyeliner as it’s much more easier to draw and it looked good too. This is how thick I usually drew.

Note: Below picture’s eyeshadow is applied using my Mistake Proof Two Tone Eyeshadow Tutorial heh!

My eyeliner is not as dramatic as others although it does intensify my overall look and I looked fresher in real. When I’m not in a hurry I like to use gel eyeliner. When time is an issue I’d use this Kanebo Coffret D’or Natural Clear Liner instead.

One thing to note about using liquid eyeliner is that precision is very important. If I pressed the tip too hard on my lid while looking through the mirror with only one eye, the line will be too thick. Try to go slow and apply a thin line then slowly build the thickness. Remember to curl your lashes before drawing eyeliner otherwise your hard work will be stuck on the eyelash curler lol!!

Why did I said this eyeliner is actually not bad for me? That’s because it’s smudge proof. Once it dries up it stays put on the lid no matter how oily my eyelid is by the end of the day. But it’s not waterproof. It doesn’t really matter if it’s waterproof or not unless you cry or walk under pouring rain a lot. I had this on last Friday and due to some work issue I cried. The wing came off on the tissue as I dab but it left a trace so I am able to redraw the wing after that. I tried walking under drizzling rain and so far so good. The liner still intact. Can’t guarantee that for pouring rain 😛

Kanebo Coffret D’or Natural Clear Liner is no longer available at Malaysia market. However Kanebo is constantly having warehouse sales to clear the balance stock so keep an eye on the internet!
Price: RM29 (Stock clearance price that I bought)

One of the makeup item that I buy and stock up is eyebrow pencil. Back in February 2012 I went to Kanebo warehouse sales and bought some as it’s really cheap for a Kanebo.

Kanebo Coffret D’or W Styling Eyebrow Holder and Pencil is sold separately. The holder is sold for RM20 after discount and RM18 for the pencil refill. At first I was a bit skeptical about the concept. I mean if you’re buying from counter at normal price, the price overall is kinda expensive for an eyebrow pencil. But then I rethink again. I only need to buy the holder once. And refill would be cheaper for long run. So I bought 5 refill at one go as Coffret D’or is pulling out from Malaysia market at that time. Now that I’m on my 2nd refill I thought it’s appropriate for me to share with you my lil thoughts.

Each holder and refill is packed individually.

Seriously, I like the holder very much. It’s not that cheapo type of material. It’s made from high quality material with a simple shiny Coffret D’or brand stamped.

When I mentioned refill…you must have thought of the lead right? Well, in this case the refill is half portion of the whole pencil which comes with the same aluminium material with the holder.

Combining the both is easy. Just insert the non-aluminium portion of the refill into the holder until you hear a “click” sound. The click sound means the refill is securely inserted.

Here is the swatch. I drew a thinner line and a thicker line for you to see how it would look like. On eyebrow it look more natural. The color that I bought is dark brown.

And here’s a full face picture to show you how the eyebrow pencil looks like on me after the end of the day. My face may have a bit shine, my blusher may be gone but the eyebrow pencil still pretty much intact unless removed with eye makeup remover.

What is your favorite eyebrow pencil? Do share! I’d love to try others too.

Beginning of this month I opened up quite a number of new products to use.

Clarins Instant Light Perfecting Touch 1ml
This is a sample unit and I currently have 3 pieces which I’ve used up 2. I’m using this as a concealer to cover up my acne scar. The color of this is slightly tinted and appears pinkish. So far the concealer does a good job.

Kanebo Coffret D’Or Eyes Appeal Shadow in (01 Sweet Brown)
Bought this from last week’s Kanebo warehouse sales at Kanebo Internation Salon Bangsar. The color payout is very light and but very shimmering. I like that it’s not just shimmering, it also contains shimmer particles.

Skin79 Crystal Finish Pact
A Taiwan Marie Claire magazine freebies. The shade is a bit light but with my darker shade liquid foundation, it’s not a biggie. I usually swirl this with Ecotools Blush Brush. This compact powder also contains shimmer particles.

Avene Cold Cream Lip Balm
It says “Lip Balm” but I don’t recommend using it as lip balm alone as you could look like a ghost! There’s this satin sheen on the lips and I like to apply this just before my lipstick. It gave my lipstick a beautiful sheen and it’s quite moisturising too.

Clarins Concealer Stick 2.6g
Bought two of this from Clarins beauty fair last year for RM30 each. Original price of this is RM92 can you believe that. It’s something like Instant Light Perfecting Touch. The only different is the texture. This is more solid creamy and Instant Light Perfecting Touch is more liquid.

Bio-Essence Aqua BB Cream 30g
I got this from an exchange program back in January. Read here. If you know me then you’d know I hate the company Ginvera and all the products under it’s umbrella. This BB cream is a crap. For some reason I don’t feel safe applying this on my face. I’ve used it once and it’s now in my rubbish bin.

Clarins Pure and Radian Mask With Pink Clay 15ml
Review: Read here
One of the best mask I’ve ever used! Apparently this is my 2nd last 15ml tube. If you use this mask on the night, you’d get a more radiant skin the next morning. Makeup glides on smoothly and stays on smoothly too.

Clarins Advanced Extra-Firming Neck Cream 15ml
This was given to me as one of the GWP. I’ve been using it on and off. Maybe because of that I haven’t seen any significant result. I think I need to use it more often to see a better result?

Clarins Multi-Active Skin Renewal Serum 30ml
I gotten this from October last year points redemption and this baby costs RM238. I was advised by a BA at Jusco MV in September 2011 to purchase this but I refuse as I find it expensive for a 30ml hehe. I didn’t use this everyday as I was alternating between 3 serums.

Clarins White Plus HP Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF20 15ml
This is given to me to try by Clarins Malaysia as this is their new White Plus HP product which just launched not long ago. This will be replacing the current Whitening Day Emulsion. The new Velvet Emulsion comes in 2 version; one with SPF20 and the other one without. The one without SPF20 could be use at night time. I kinda like this new version as it’s less oilier and felt more light on the skin. This will definitely suitable for combination skin.

Kanebo Coffret D’Or Natural Clear Liner BK-28
A non-refillable liquid eye liner by Coffret D’Or. First impression is this is kinda watery. It’s like the water and the black ink is not properly mixed. Then I start to shake the pen vigorously and it’s ok now LOL. Hard to remove though. Don’t expect this to be easier to remove like Maybelline HyperSharp Liner cause it’s not.

Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch 4ml
Review: Read here
Makeup artist around the world called this the second skin. I couldn’t agree more. I’m using this to cover up my forehead lines. Yea I tend to frown and lift my brow when I do my eye makeup. Bad bad habit. And I’m using this to cover up my pores on the cheek as well.

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Lotion 9ml
A sample from Hada Labo FB redemption. I always wanted to apply something liquid and moisturizing after each mask session and this is perfect! I could see myself purchasing the full size bottle of this soon.
