NYX Butter Gloss 1
I was going through my lipstick drawers and I kept looking at these NYX Butter Gloss, which I bought a few years ago for one sole purpose. Yeap. The one and only lip gloss that I used, like, love and still using 🙂 . I still remember a few years ago when NYX arrived Sephora. It was so exclusive and limited that every single day all the NYX counter would be swamped with girls. I literally have to snuck one arm in between waists to grab something. IT WAS INSANE. There was two product that was all hyped up back then. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, which I hate and this NYX Butter Gloss.

Butter Gloss is a lip gloss that is said to be super hydrating and not sticky. Did someone said not sticky? I’m in! But that’s not all what people say about Butter Gloss. The reason why I bought a lip gloss (rare case) was because I read about how this Butter Gloss works like a charm as lipstick topper, especially on dry lipstick. So I went on a hunt for CrĂ©me Brulee. That’s the shade that errrbody was raving for. I have to hunt for it because it was sold out everywhere. Whenever Sephora restock them, it was sold out again.

NYX Butter Gloss 2
My first NYX Butter Gloss was CrĂ©me Brulee. I can’t remember how much I bought but it was hella cheap. RM22 maybe? I cannot remember. I don’t use it on its own because I still am not a fan of lip gloss what more having lip gloss on my entire lips on its own. At that time I had issues with lipstick being too dry or cracked and this Butter Gloss is said to work in preventing that if you apply a little bit on the center of the lip. Boy oh boy it works like magic. It is so comfortable on the lips, NOT sticky at all and lasts the whole day. Despite having a matte lipstick on that was drying, a little bit of Butter Gloss on the center of the lips took my mind off the entire day. It is just too comfortable.

It is not opaque. That, you have to take note. But it is decent enough. What I like about this being a lip topper is that regardless what shade I used, it still look natural. It doesn’t change the lipstick shade at all. It just brings life back to the lips. Some lip gloss can break up a lipstick making it all patchy but not Butter Gloss. So far I have no problem with that. It doesn’t change the lipstick texture. It’s like it has its own life lol.

NYX Butter Gloss 3
The scent is quite vanilla-y. Quite pleasant and not nauseating at all. The scent doesn’t lingers on for long. It is gone in no time. If you want a good gloss that is not sticky, affordable and good as lipstick topper to get rid of the dry lipstick feeling, get this Butter Gloss. I am also aware that there is a Intense Butter Gloss. Honestly I have not tried the intense version yet so I can’t compare and tell you which is better. This 5 tubes I have will last me ages and I don’t intend to get anymore 😛

I just did a quick run through my old Sephora receipts and true enough, NYX Butter Gloss was RM22. I bought CrĂ©me Brulee at full price and the remaining 4 Butter Gloss I bought at the same year during Sephora Private Sale. I paid RM17.60 each after 20% OFF. Not bad eh! 😀

NYX Butter Gloss is available at all Sephora stores nationwide and at Hermo.

Price: RM26

NYX Micro Brow Pencil
If there is one makeup application that I am proud of, that would be my brow shaping. I go through brow pencil so fast that I no longer bother to spend loads on eyebrow pencil. Everyone on Youtube including their mama and grandma uses Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. Brow Wiz is a ultra-thin automatic pencil that is said to be the best among the best. When NYX came out with Micro Brow Pencil, everyone on Youtube started to compare it with Brow Wiz saying it is a cheaper dupe.

Last month (I think) Sephora KLCC renovated the entire store and NYX shelf gotten a makeover. The makeover not only applies to the look of the shelf itself but loads of new products were added in. I went to check out the new store and make a mental note to stop by NYX the first thing I was in the store. Imagine my excitement when I spot the NYX Micro Brow Pencil. Then I saw the price – RM45. For someone who went through brow pencil with a snap of the finger, RM45 is too much for me. So I waited for Sephora Black Card member 20% sale.

Just like any other automatic brow pencil, NYX Micro Brow Pencil comes with a dual-ended tip. One end is the product itself and the other end is the spoolie. Despite rumours saying that Micro Brow Pencil is the cheaper dupe of Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) Brow Wiz, many said it is somewhat harder to draw on than ABH. I actually find it not the case for me. You see, I have so much lesser brow hair than everyone on Youtube which means I have to draw on some my brow onto the skin. The skin is slippery in a way after foundation that my all-time favourite ZA Brow Liner is too creamy to stick onto my skin. That was also why I was on the hunt for the next best brow pencil. Micro Brow Pencil is PERFECT.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil Dual End
I thought my ZA Brow Liner is the most slimmest brow pencil I could ever find. Obviously our friends at the States had better idea with the word “slim” that they created ultra-thin pencil. Thin means I am getting lesser product in a pencil. ZA Brow Liner contain 0.17g of product while NYX Micro Brow Pencil contain 0.09g. See what I mean? For double the price I get half lesser product. This will be gone in 2 weeks!

The product itself is the best I have ever used. It is not too creamy until it doesn’t adhere to the skin, nor it is too hard to draw on. I actually have better control and precision with the Micro Bro Pencil, even on the smallest area that needed a fill. I absolutely love that the product glides on and stick onto my skin without any tugging or any repeat drawing. One swipe and it is on.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil Slim Tip
The spoolie on the other end is slim and slightly hard due to the shorter bristles. Having said that, it does not feels hard on the skin at all. I like that it is slim that it fits into my already slim brow. The product itself is good and so I would expect the spoolie to be equally good. I was right. It is good.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil Spoolie
Now. For Malaysia, NYX is only available at Sephora stores. And Sephora does not carries all the shades you see from NYX website. That is understandable as we only need shades that suits the majority of us. You may find five shades selection to choose from – Auburn, Ash Brown, Brunette, Espresso, and Black. I was in dilemma between choosing the shade Brunette or Espresso as the swatches on the back of my hand seems similar. Espresso is a tad bit darker than Brunette, just a tad bit. So I went with Brunette. The shade was alright, only a bit too warm / chocolate on me. Luckily I have warmer hair tone now so I can still pull it off.

Micro Brow Pencil lasted all day on me, even when shine starts to peek through. It does not budge or disappear. I have not experience any product rubbed off when the skin was a bit oily, which was not usually the case with other brow pencil. I even tried napping with makeup on, sleeping my side and the tail of my brow stays lol 😀

CLINIVITA-Marine-Placenta-Day-Serum-Before-and-After-5
Would I repurchase the Micro Brow Pencil? I am afraid I will be. It is really good. I wanted to go back for more backups the next day while the sale is still on but was caught up with other things 🙁

NYX Micro Brow Pencil Full Face Makeup
So, if you are like me who does not have the luxury of fuller brows and you needed something that will adhere to your skin, NYX Micro Brow Pencil is the answer. It fills my brow naturally, gets into every nook and cranny easily with the ultra-thin pencil, and lasts all day long even with napping in between 😀

NYX Micro Brow Pencil is available at all Sephora stores nationwide.

Price: RM45. Available in 5 shades – Auburn, Ash Brown, Brunette, Espresso, and Black

I have never been lucky with makeup setting spray (read here and here), what more a matte finish long lasting setting spray. It is quite hard to find NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray at Sephora as it is always sold out. You know what people say, when it’s hard to find, you would want it badly. When I finally managed to track it down, I bought it in a split second. I figure what have I got to lose since it is cheaper and it was the Sephora Black Card member private sale.

NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray
There are two variant of makeup setting spray within NYX. One is this Matte Finish (or Matte Shine-Free Finish according to NYX website) while the other one is Dewy Finish (or Dewy Glow Finish). I can be quite an oil slick by mid day so Dewy Finish is a definite no-no for me. I remember Shaaanxo from YouTube mention before that she love this stuff. If Shaaanxo likes it, I would too. Boo! Wrong thinking 😛

Anyway, as I said earlier I don’t have much luck with makeup setting spray except for MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix. Mist & Fix makes my makeup look so flawless but it is not a product that control sebum. I needed something that can control excess sebum so that my foundation stays on without slipping. NYX said that their Makeup Setting Sprays are lightweight and comfortable to be worn on the face while making sure makeup stays put, fresh and long lasting. It comes in a sleek all black bottle and it is rather a small bottle in my opinion.

NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray Bottle
I really didn’t except the pump to work well but it did. Some spray pump can be faulty at times and the mist can be huge and ‘rough’ so-called. NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray is the opposite of all that. The pump system is still superb after using it for a good few months and the mist is one of the finest I’ve used so far. It is on par with MAKE UP FOR EVE Mist & Fix. What I really hate about this product is that it melt my makeup after misting, just like the Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray and then there is this scent. It has a chemical scent to it and it’s just awful. I have to hold my breath everytime I use it. Bear in mind everyone has a different perception on scent description so some might say this doesn’t have a scent or some might say it is not bad. The scent is just not for me.

As far as the product name or claim goes, nope. It doesn’t work a bit at all for me. Not only my makeup doesn’t last long, my makeup slips especially on the lower part of my face and the matte claim is totally rubbish. What matte? I don’t see any matte finish nor does it help my face to stay matte. It’s like I didn’t use anything at all. Might as well I stop using since there’s no different anyway.

NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray Mist
Can you see the super fine mist?

In conclusion, this is just one of those makeup setting spray that doesn’t work for me. Not many in the market does anyway. I was intrigued with the Matte Finish claim at first and I’m really disappointed that it doesn’t work at all. I’m not fond of the scent and the small amount of product. What I like is the fine mist.

I saw from Sephora KLCC last Saturday that Urban Decay had came out with a new prep spray that claim to absorb oil, minimizes pores and reduces redness. Oh boy. That’s a huge claim for a prep spray. It is retailing for RM50 but I’m too afraid to spend on something that doesn’t work again.

Have you tried any of NYX makeup setting spray? Does it work much better on you? I hope it did!

NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray is available at all Sephora stores nationwide.

Price: RM39 for 60ml

Oh yes, my favourite topic to talk about – Products That Didn’t Work. Following my first edition of “Sorry” Products aka Beauty Products That Didn’t Work, this would be the second installment of the topic. Actually I’ve totally forgotten about this 😛 otherwise I’d have quite a number of products to talk about. I’ve threw away some products and I can only find these at the moment. Rest assured. There bound to be a 3rd installment 😛

Products That Didn't Work 1v2
Let’s see what do we have here. Not much though, just four products that just doesn’t work for me. As I always said, take what you’re reading here with a pinch of salt. You might find it to work on you beautifully 😀

Products That Didn't Work 2

Sponge Brush (RM6.90)

Okay I admit. I bought this sponge brush thingymajig from Mr. DIY because it looks cute and the price is not too expensive for me to experiment with. I’ve seen this tool around especially from Ecotools and that is slightly more expensive (USD5.99). There is two different sponge type available – one with pointy top and another one with flat top. I find the sponge to be a bit too hard and dense for me to bounce it on my face. The product doesn’t absorb into the sponge for a flawless application so I ended up with blotchy finishing. Because it is so hard, I torn the sponge on the sponge a bit during application and further damage is done during washing. In conclusion, don’t waste your money on this. You can get a pretty decent sponge applicator that is soft and works well for the same price.

Products That Didn't Work 3

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (RM26)

This has got to be one of the highly raved product from NYX, which is why I too jumped onto the ‘SMLC’ bandwagon. If you recall my review at this link, I totally regretted getting two of these. I still am! Just recently I took it out again to use, thinking it might be better this time since my lips are well-moisturized lately. I guess I was being naive. I have no issue with it going on oh so buttery smooth but it’s the finishing that I don’t like. It dries down completely matte, light weight as I don’t feel anything on my lips but once I take a look on the mirror, I looked like I have a 80 years old grandma lips. It dries down matte AND at the same time tighten my lips all together giving it a very wrinkly look. It’s surprising to me how much this lippie changed the overall texture and look of my original lips. And it still cracks on me. After I slap on some lip gloss, I felt soooo much better. Oh well, I don’t buy a matte lipstick just to apply a gloss over it. I might as well use a gloss! It’s a fail for me.

Products That Didn't Work 4

Daiso Makeup Brush Cleanser (RM5)

This is a rare product that I encounter at a very small Daiso The Mines Shopping outlet. I’ve been to the same outlet so many times and I’ve never seen this. Plus they only left this one bottle. I bought it knowing that Daiso does produce fairly good product for the RM5 price tag. If this is good, I might not need to purchase my favourite MAC Brush Cleanser! Unfortunately, it doesn’t work a bit. The instruction on the back stated to pour the cleanser into a container and dip the brush in the solution thoroughly then circle the brush on the palm to remove dirt before rinsing with water. Nope. Brush still dirty. I’ve even tried pouring onto kitchen towel and run the brush on it and it still fails to get rid of the dirt from the brush. This is basically like a miceller cleansing water. It doesn’t foams up or whatsoever, which I don’t mind providing I can clean the brush for next day use. I still think MAC Brush Cleanser is the best spot cleaning solution and it’s not that expensive.

Products That Didn't Work 5

Hair Scissors (RM3.90)

I probably shouldn’t complain about this because afterall it only cost RM3.90 eh? But nah, I would want you to know so that you don’t make the same mistake lol. Last week I wanted to cut my own fringe/bangs. I’m used to cutting my own fringe with normal hair scissors but I don’t know why I wanted a rigged scissors that is commonly used to thin hair volume for the ends of my fringe. I went to Mr. DIY because it’s cheaper than Daiso. This doesn’t work because nothing was ‘cut’ and I can’t even pull it out from my hair. Usually you can snip + pull with the expensive scissors but this one, nope. You can’t. The most important is… there was probably a few strands of hair that the scissors managed to cut through? lol. It’s really hilarious.

Products That Didn't Work 6
This is what happen when you have too much time on hand and feeling adventurous at the same time 🙂 . I’ve no regrets for purchasing the abovementioned products except for NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream because I have high hopes on it. The rest doesn’t cost a lot of money except for causing unnecessary inconvenience.

Is there any recent purchase that didn’t work for you? I certainly hope you are more lucky than me but if you are someone who like to try and test new products, this bound to happen right?
