Burberry Make Up - Face Review: Make Up

Review: Burberry Beauty Velvet Foundation (Trench No. 201) – A Matte, Long Lasting, Full Coverage Liquid Foundation

How amazing it is to think back that earlier this year I don’t wear any liquid foundation and now I’m so into liquid foundation. It’s the first product I looked at everytime I step into a cosmetic and fragrance department.

Somewhere last month Burberry Beauty Malaysia released a brand new liquid foundation called Velvet Foundation and this time it’s targeted to those who want matte, long lasting and full coverage at the same time. Burberry Beauty Velvet Foundation would be my 2nd liquid foundation that I’ve tried and currently wearing.

The product comes in a tall, thick frosty plastic bottle. I know it looked huge but in fact it’s not that big bottle actually. It fits on my palm comfortably. The packaging quality is at it’s high state maintaining the name of Burberry even on beauty products.

The cover of the foundation covers 3/4 of the bottle and it’s finger print-proof too. You know how paranoid I am with cleanliness. I’m worried I might transfered the makeup base stain from my palm to the bottle and I’m happy to report that doesn’t happen!

The pump included works very well. There’s an “On” and “Off” feature whereas twist to the left means Off and turn the pump head to the right and it means On.

Here’s the ingredient list for those that are interested.

I was given shade Trench No. 201 to try. This is the lightest shade for warm tone. According to Adrian (Trainer of Luxasia), odd number for example No. 201, 203 and 205 is for warm skin tone while even number for example No. 202, 204 and 206 is for cool skin tone. If you know which your skin tone belongs to, matching the shade is a breeze.

The dent on the upper top left is due to my clumsiness. I dropped the bottle accidentally while photographing the product :(. My heart ache when I spot the dent. Thank God no major damage is spotted.

I only use 1 pump of this liquid foundation for my whole face. Below is how much 1 pump is. Despite bearing the name “Velvet”, Velvet Foundation dispense out quite watery surprisingly. I thought the foundation would be thick since it provide full coverage but it doesn’t. My advise is always pump only 1 pump at one time to avoid wastage. If 1 pump is not enough, pump another half pump and so on. Build your coverage from there :). Sometimes when I feel I need more I’d use another half pump. Some pump system is hard to control especially if you need a bit or half pump. With Burberry Beauty Velvet Foundation it’s not an issue.

Here’s how Velvet Foundation is once it’s spread out. Do take note that below swatch looked a bit thick as I spread from the 1 pump amount above which was meant for the whole face as I don’t want to waste any. You don’t get this thick cast on your face don’t worry lol.

I absolutely love the velvety, matte and full coverage that Velvet Foundation gave! Sorry for being excited. This is my first full coverage liquid foundation 🙂

Let’s take a look at the Before and After shall we. Simply amazing. It covers what needed to be covered. Uneven skin tone is totally not visible anymore, redness, blemishes is also taken care off.

It took me so long to draft out this product review because I’m still trying the best way of applying for me. On the first time using this Velvet Foundation I used it with Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush because I was also testing out the brush at the same time. That doesn’t works well. It just don’t spread evenly and gave me streaks yikes! Then only I realized this is a matte foundation therefore spreading the foundation out could be a bit tricky.

On the second day I used this again and this time with my middle and ring finger which was the best fingers to used for applying liquid foundation by the way. I figured that the heat from my fingers could somehow warm and melt the foundation a lil bit so that it’s more easier to spread. Indeed using fingers are the best way! I forget it’s matte and velvety so it tend to get dry fast and spreading is a problem again. I’d suggest to moisturize the face properly with sufficient moisturizer before using.

Then the next day and onwards I’m using the same method as second day which is applying with my fingers. This time I worked more faster so spreading issue is solved a bit. I said a bit because my nose area and upper lip still looked patchy and blotchy. Nothing can’t be solved with a piece of facial tissue (wipe and reapply whichever necessary). I finished it off with loose powder. At first it looked a bit dry and of course patchy. Gave it a few minutes for it to blend with your face heat and when your face start to oil up a bit…the finishing is as what it claimed; velvety.

The oil control is so-so only. I was slightly disappointed that the “matte” claim doesn’t live up to what it claimed. My T-zone area oil up around 11am. Once I blot it off my face stay oil-free towards evening which is not bad. As I’m using No. 201 which is one shade lighter so I don’t notice any oxidization. Although I took one shade lighter but it doesn’t appear whitish on me as I was told I’m quite fair in real and the fact that all liquid foundation oxidize on me. So I’ve learnt my lesson – always buy a shade lighter.

Hope you like the finishing look that Burberry Beauty Velvet Foundation gave me.

    • Yeap worth to try. Not only they’re pretty to look at but they’re also quite good. For lipstick you can try Lip Cover or Lip Mist. If you like matte then Lip Velvet it is.
