philosophy, a brand that approaches personal care from a skin care point of view now celebrates the beauty of the human spirit at Malaysia

I learnt yesterday that one of philosophy‘s inspiration is on the lowercase writing. Philosophy uses lowercase writing to remind us to live life with curiosity, wisdom and joy. That explains today’s lowercase title 🙂

So you’ve heard. And it’s true. Philosophy has finally landed at our Malaysia shore at all Sephora outlets nationwide to be exact, just three weeks ago. I get to learn the science behind the products and I get to be the “scientist” for a moment too. I’ll explain further below. The preview was divided by three chapter – Chapter 1 : Skin Care, Chapter 2 : Fragrance and Chapter 3 : Bath & Body.

Philosophy Signature Girl

philosophy is a brand that approaches beauty from a skin care point of view, while celebrating the beauty of the human spirit. we believe in miracles and the beauty in everyone. our products are based on a rich, scientific heritage coupled with inspirational messaging to create a fresh approachable attitude towards beauty.

Chapter 1 : Skin Care

The best cosmetic is great looking skin. True enough to that. Philosophy believe that skin care is the cornerstone of beauty and that the best cosmetic is great-looking skin. I always said that cosmetic is to enhance beauty and true beauty comes with a healthy skin. What you want to achieve is a perfect canvas and that is great looking bare face. All Philosophy skin care are result-driven skin care that stems from a rich medical heritage steeped in science. The formulation of the products are gentle on the skin, even for sensitive skin users and yet it’s effective. This is because Philosophy skin cares are created together with doctors and scientists using proven ingredients therefore it helps you to reveal radiantly beautiful, impeccably smooth, youthful-looking skin.

Philosophy 1
The overall brand discovery was more enlighten with the presence of Robin White, Director of Global Press for Philosophy who travels around the world and communicate Philosophy’s mission and product offering so that the consumers are well-informed of the latest Philosophy trends and advancements within the skin care industry. Over the past years during her early tenure in the company, Robin also worked closely with Philosophy Creator and Founder, Cristina Carlino as well as involving in the product development and collaborated with the sales teams in order to bring unique Philosophy products to customers worldwide.

Philosophy 2
Dr Hew Yin Keat, founding member of the Malaysian Society of Aesthetic Medicine and current Vice-President was also present to share with us his thoughts on skin care and how the ingredients used in Philopsophy skin care range are effective and beneficial on our skin.

Philosophy 3

Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes (240ml – WM: RM85, EM: RM89)

Dr Hew said choosing the right cleanser to start the skin care regime is important. You need a cleanser that doesn’t strip off most of the natural face oil from the skin surface as that will cause skin sensitivity. This multiple award winning line of mild cleansing products efficiently remove your face and eye makeup while giving your pores a deep cleanse and at the same time keeping the skin hydrated. Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes is a product that remove makeup, cleanse and tone is formulated with 12 essential oils, which makes it a gentle cleanser that gives your skin comfort without loosing the skin’s natural moisture barrier. This cleanser can remove makeup effortlessly but heavier makeup such as layers and layers of waterproof mascara or heavy foundation might need a second round of cleansing.

Philosophy 4

The Microdelivery Peel In-Home Vitamin C Peptide Peel (60g – WM: RM260, EM: RM273)

This duo product set is the first product we tried out at the press preview that makes us feel like a scientist for a moment. There’s a lot of ooohhhs and aahhhs moment including myself.

This product was inspired by in-office medical treatments. The latest breakthrough The Microdelivery is a triple-acid brightening peel that helps to brighten your skin in 30 seconds by delivering advanced brightening and anti-aging benefits in only one step. This duo revolutionizes the peel category by offering and in-home exfoliating cosmetic treatment that delivers clinically-proven results quickly and conveniently, with zero downtime in just 3 minutes. Peptide Crystals is creamy and fine that feels comfortable on massage but when Salicylic Acid Activating Gel was added onto Peptide Crystals, that’s when the texture turns into creamy white color and it warms up slightly. Amazing and yet interesting.

Philosophy 5

Hope In A Jar Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer for Normal to Oily Skin and Hope In A Jar High-Performance Moisturizer for All Skin Types (60g – WM: RM140, EM: RM147)

Philosophy believes skin care should be effortless, something that I couldn’t agree more. So Hope In A Jar was one of the cream formulated with this mantra in mind. It is also the very first product created in order to benefit women of all skin types and conditions while being multi-tasking and easy to apply. This face moisturizer was originally created to cater the medical market. Although it has went into the consumer market, it is still one the the moisturizer recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists today. Hope In A Jar’s beta glucan and lactid acid helps to hydrate, protect, and reinvigorate your skin. As for the catchy name? It’s to help you to remember the important things in life.

Both version have this special souffle texture to it. Hope In A Jar Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer will suit anyone that doesn’t like stickiness on their face and of course anyone who are with combination to oily skin. However Hope In A Jar High-Performance Moisturizer is not bad either. It suits all skin type, not greasy at all.

Philosophy 6

Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Retinoid Pads and Solution (60 Pads – WM: RM275, EM: RM289)

Advanced anti-aging line, Miracle Worker products is Philosophy latest progress for intensely smooth, highly luminous, extraordinarily clear ageless skin. As the name suggest, it is created to work miracles on the most common signs of aging such as unwanted lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, dehydration, rough texture, dramatically improve skin discoloration and promote flawless clarity. This duo is also one of the set that comes with two items in it. The Retinoid Pads are dry so one would need to pour in the whole bottle of solution into the pads before using it for the first time. Retinoid Solution comes in an amber bottle to help preserving the freshness of the product.

The Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Retinoid Pads is not just any ordinary pads available. It contain the latest version of HPR technology that is fast acting and proficient. What this product do is that the high performance retinoid supports natural collagen by helping to speed up cell renewal. This fresh-pour elixir deliver miraculous results that can be seen in days.

Philosophy 9

Turbo Booster C Powder a.m. Topical Vitamin C Powder (7.1g – WM: RM120, EM: RM126)

Vitamin C is dermatological gold standard. Vitamin C is the best ingredient to brighten the skin and to protect the skin from environmental aggressors. This product is something new to me. Philosophy’s Turbo Booster C Powder give skin a daily boost of 99.8% topical Vitamin C. It also act as a barrier of prevention for premature aging and as a support to natural collagen to help minimize the appearance of fines lines as well as a natural skin brightener that helps improve skin discoloration and evening out skin tone for a radiant complexion.

But how do you use a Vitamin C powder and implement it into daily skin care regime? Turbo Booster C Powder is to be mixed with your favorite water-based serum or moisturizer on each usage. It must be done fresh during application and not pre-mixing it in advance. There is a spatula provided. If you have sensitive skin, start with half a scoop otherwise use a full scoop of Vitamin C powder. You only need to use this in the morning. During the press preview, we mixed it with When Hope Is Not Enough Hydrating Antioxidant Serum (30ml – WM: RM155, EM: RM163), that is enriched with firming and hydrating properties to revitalize a dull, lifeless complexion.

Philosophy 7

When Hope Is Not Enough Omega 3-6-9 Replenishing Oil (25ml – WM: RM175, EM: RM184)

When it comes to skin care, there must be at least one facial oil or else it will not be complete. Fatty acids from omega 3 and 6 helps to nurture the skin while unsaturated omega-9 help to stimulate the skin’’s natural process of renewal and regeneration, while maintaining its suppleness and elasticity. Almost every beauty oil is lightweight and this is not exceptional either. It is a lightweight oil that hydrates dry skin while protecting it against environmental attack. If Turbo Booster C Powder is to be used in the a.m, this replenishing oil is to be used in the p.m. If you suffer from irritated skin, this oil will be a great post peel or exfoliation treatment to soothe all the irritation away.

Philosophy 10

Chapter 2 : Fragrance

While Philosophy main focus is skin care, the brand also carries a small varieties of fragrances and bath and body products to cater to current lifestyle needs.

Philosophy 11
Philosophy believe that fragrance should not only make you smell good, but also make you feel good. You smell good so you feel good! You wouldn’t want to feel bad for smelling good right? So Philosophy created fragrances that are clean, feminine and intimate. The scent that are produce from our body are different and unique individually. Philosophy’s belief is that these scent should be celebrated and enhanced by the perfume you use. So each of Philosophy fragrances created will be wearable and feel comfortable for everyone.

Price ranges from RM100 to RM173.

Philosophy 14

Chapter 3 : Bath & Body

Daily shower should not be just a wash and rinse affair but instead it should be converted into a total multi-sensory experience and an opportunity to indulge, relax and emerge to face the day with a clean body and a clear conscience.

Philosophy 12
Philosophy bath & body products has been developed to infuse your daily life with a burst of joy and happiness. I thought it was so thoughtful of Philosophy to have created shower gels that double up as shampoo and bubble baths! Not only you get to experience a happy bath but a total head-to-toe cleansing experience, which caters to our current fast moving lifestyle. Philosophy body lotions on the other hand moisturize and hydrate thirsty skin.

There are three types of bath and body products to choose from. Flower lover like myself are offered a Field of Flowers collection, bearing that childhood fields in bloom scent. The Be Somebody collection on the other hand comes in serene scents like green tea and water lily that reminds you that to be somebody you don’t need to be great, but you have to be good. The basic range is the recipes and drinks collection such as Cinnamon Buns, Senorita Margarita, Raspberry Sorbet, Vanilla Birthday Cake and Melon Daiquiri. These are some of the mouth watering and delicious scents available.

Price ranges from RM85 to RM121.

Philosophy 13
I can go on and on about the science and benefits of Philosophy products so I highly suggest that you storm to any Sephora outlet to try, sniff and experience the products yourself. You will be happy to know that Philosophy skin care products does not contain any artificial fragrances so the product scent is quite natural, almost doesn’t have any obvious scent to it except for The Microdelivery Peel which smells heavenly like an orange.

If you ask me which Philosophy skin care to pick up if you’re new to the brand, I would recommend Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes, The Microdelivery Peel set, Turbo Booster C Powder and Hope In A Jar Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer. Those are the basic 3-steps. If you’re afraid that Turbo Booster C Powder is not suitable for your skin, you can try Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Retinoid Pads instead. And of course how can you leave without grabbing a bottle (or three, or four) of the 3-in-1 shampoo, shower gel & bubble baths? I’m pretty sure you will turn yourself into the delicious, heavenly scent of these shower gel.

Unfortunately I don’t have the product prices with me so I will update this article soon with prices. I plan to drop by Sephora to spy on the products 😀

  • It’s already in Malaysia??!! I didn’t know that! I think I missed it at Sephora. I’m going to check it out this weekend.

    • Yes, started selling at Sephora since 3 weeks ago 🙂 . Media preview was last Monday. Go go!

  • Wow the product sounds and look amazing. I like the mixing procedure. Shower gel will get into the shopping cart for sure^^

    • It is! So far I’ve only break into the shower gel…twice. Once as a shower gel, the second time as shampoo and shower gel. Saved time showering lol.
It feels a bit like scientist with all the mixing hehe. It was fun.

  • Ohh…Just ran out of moisturiser! Can’t wait to get my hands on Hope in a Jar~ 😛 how much is it? have they released the price list yet? 🙂

    • They have, just that it’s not in my press release. I thought of going to Sephora to get the prices as I wanted to check out the philosophy in general but let me get the prices from the brand for you.

  • Such a pretty, minimalist-styled launch – just like the brand!
I was never able to order this brand online before because many of their products are quite heavy, and therefore expensive, to ship so it’s nice to know they’re here! I also wanted to try their fragrances and again these are impossible to order online as perfumes are classed as ‘hazmat’ goods so I’m happy that I’ll have a chance to to try and perhaps buy them locally.

    • Yes indeed. It coincide with the brand philosophy. You are right, it’s expensive to ship them here due to the weight and the liquid content. It’s about time philosophy is here 😀

  • I’ve tried quite a few philosophy products in the past and I’m pretty excited that they are now available in Malaysia. I love the shower gels!

    • I’m so lazy lately that I used the shower gel to shampoo my hair. It’s a huge bottle for the price. I’d pay for this shower gel anytime 😉

  • This is an interesting brand with erm, quite philosophical concept lol 🙂 I agree wholeheartedly that the best cosmetic is healthy looking skin – real and natural. The replenishing oil looks interesting though I not the biggest fan for face oil. Haha, I laughed when I read the product name is When Hope Is Not Enough Replenishing Oil. It is nice and great to know that more and more brands are reaching our shores hence we can try an array of products.

    • VERY philosophical. There’s wisdom words / comforting words on the bottles and jars to get the day started. I haven’t really read anything on it yet but I will when I start using them. Face oils are wonderful but this time I’m more attracted towards other products than the face oil hehe. Usually face oil stands out for me. Not this time.
The names are seriously catchy eh? Like Hope In A Jar. Whoaaa makes me seriously wanted to slap on that cream like immediately.

Be on the look out in May. There’s one exciting brand coming.

  • Have you tried the 3 in 1 cleanser before? My friend says she like it very much but I haven’t try it yet.

    • Tried the 3-in-1 cleanser. That’s my lazy routine when I don’t feel like doing the long double cleansing. You should give it a try 😀

  • Can use Turbo Booster C Powder day and night daily?

    • Turbo Booster C powder only to be used during day time. Yes, you can use it daily.
