Review: Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis – “Honey, I Blew Up The Balls”

As many Guerlain Meteorites Perles users would said “no more balls”, I said the same too. I told myself I’ll not get anymore but seems like I was lying to myself. Are you kidding me? The Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis from Spring Color collection 2013 is so hard to resist!

Say hello to my precious – Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis. Even the name is also glamorous. Wait till I get into details cause you’d be kicking yourself again for giving this a miss.

To be frank, the first thing that draw my soul to Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis was the pastel pink can. And of course that black outlined rosette which is the logo for Meteorites Perles. Such a pretty. I could stare at this whole day.

Guerlain64
I never realized that the content is more than the normal Meteorites Perles until a few days ago. That was like 3 weeks after I bought it?? This limited edition Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis is capped at a hefty 53g while the normal one would be 30g. Now that I think of it…the permanent range is pathetically little LOL.

Guerlain65
Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis comes with Guerlain’s regular spot UV black box packaging. One thing you should know is that the can is taller and larger than the permanent range. In fact it’s much more larger than other limited edition as well.

As for the can that holds the pearls, it’s made from hard cardboard this time. Guerlain seems to turn back time back to the old cardboard can. This is my first encounter with cardboard can so I can’t tell if it’s good or bad. Good in the sense that it’s limited edition, different and bigger can. Bad in the sense that it’s not on par with the price I paid and the luxurious of it. That’s what I personally think about the whole cardboard thing. I’d be lying if I tell you I’m not slight disappointed. I knew prior about the cardboard can from various reads online so I’m well prepared and not surprised at all. But hey…it’s Limited Edition so I’m going to accept it as it is 🙂

The top lid covers the whole side body of the can. Everytime I close the top on, air goes in as well. So the next time when I want to take the can out I nearly dropped the whole thing! I don’t think so anyone would hold the can on the side. Most of us would just grab the can from the top.

Guerlain67
Contrary to the usual rubbery sponge included in the can, Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis comes with a fluffy fur sponge with black ribbon bow on top. It is definitely well-made and feel soft on the face too. Many people would just toss this aside and prefer their brush. But for me this time round I’d prefer to use this fur sponge to swirl on the pearls and dab on my face.

I’m quite glad to see this type of fluffy fur sponge included. Afterall I paid more than usual and this is limited edition. Everything got to be slightly different right?

Guerlain68
Guerlain gave a boost to their legendary pearls for this collection making them at XXL limited edition size. Guerlain stated that this illuminate skin with an angelic halo. When I first saw the content at Guerlain counter I was a bit shocked as the pearls are so little. I’m seeing at what seems to be less than 2 rows of balls? Then the BA quickly tell me that the pearls are larger thus the lesser pearls. Not sure how that calculation works. Bigger pearls = lesser pearls.

Guerlain69
Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Paradis comes with 6 skin-toned and pastel shades. I’ve read from various blogs that this edition is quite shimmering. Most of the shimmer comes from shimmering silver and sparkling white. The shimmer bits are slightly (just slightly) larger than normal so don’t worry, you still won’t look like a disco ball.

I had a hard time swatching pearl by pearl for you. It is so hard to swatch. Plus I think there’s no point to swatch each pearl out because it just doesn’t work that way. This meteorites perles is supposed to work by mixing all the pearls together for a instantly awakened, revitalized and illuminating complexion.

If you are at the counter and you tried this on but couldn’t see anything? I’d suggest you to take a look again under natural lighting. Sometimes shopping complex lighting doesn’t do justice to this illuminating effect.

One thing I need to warn you is to be light-handed when using this. You can overdoing it and looked pink. On my first use with these pearls I did my makeup at 5.30am in the morning and it was slightly dark. I swirl the fur sponge and pat on my face and yet I couldn’t see the glittering or shimmering effect. I repeated again and again and still see nothing. Then I whipped out my Guerlain Powder Brush and apply as normal. When I looked into the office mirror I had a shock. I thought I looked pink and I am pink! Lesson well-learnt 🙂

My Guerlain by Emilio Pucci Meteorites Perles D’azur pearls is getting really small now that I don’t feel any guilt purchasing this. This is afterall a limited edition that is worthy for collector. Did I tell you the rosette on top of the can is pretty?

Okay back to topic. Do you need this? If you are a collector then I would say yes. If you are first time user then I would say yes too. But if you are already happy with your permanent one (Teint Rose, Teint Beige, Teint Dora) then you might not need this. Personally I like to experiment with different illuminating glow. The funny thing is Guerlain by Emilio Pucci gave me a brightening blueish glow while this one gave me a subtle shimmering pinkish glow LOL!

  • I’m still trying to come to terms with this one. I actually found it a tad glittery as in I’d actually sparkle in the sun LOL! Oh and the pink tones too. But then, we never need another tub of balls do we? We just want them LOL 😉

    • It’s glittery for you? I don’t find mine glittery, or maybe I’m into all the glittery shimmery stuff on my face lol! Hope you don’t look like Edward of Twilight 😛
But then I only found 3 silver pearls in my can :). I need to be extra careful with this one due to the pink tone. Haha yes we don’t need it but we WANT it! I’m so close to grab the Meteorites Perles Du Dragon. That would really give me a white cast. I’ll save for next Limited Edition 🙂

  • I have the meteorites perles illuminating powder in teint beige and I don’t really like the white rubbery sponge. When I’m not careful, everything just drops out from the bottle and the balls would scramble everywhere…. 🙁
How do you find this one? Do you think it’s a must- buy if I already have the illuminating powder?

    • I think the white rubbery sponge is just to hold all the pearls in place :). When you swirl your brush in the can just use the other hand to close the opening so that the pearls doesn’t jump out from the can. I lost a few pearls before this too.
I like this one. But do note this gave a warmer tone. If you are into meteorites perles you can invest in these. The glittery bits are more intense than usual. You can actually see the bits :). Don’t worry, you won’t look like disco ball lol!!
