Clinique Review: Skin Care Skin Care - Hydrating

Review: Revisiting Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

I own three deluxe sample of Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief in 5mls and 7ml respectively. I’ve used up a whole jar of 5ml and I couldn’t see or feel the different at all so I stop using it. Moisture Surge has been sitting in my HELMER drawer for 6 months now and recently I revisited this Clinique’s best seller for a skin S.O.S.

Every brand counter I visited for the past 1 month said I have dehydrated skin. Perricone MD, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Clinique, Origins, Guerlain, Dior…they all said the same thing. I’ve been using extensively on both Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase and Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Gel but it seems like my skin has reached to a dry stage that those two daily staple is not enough anymore. I have a few hydration skin care set which I’m currently testing and then I remembered I have a few jar of Clinique Moisture Surge somewhere. I managed to find em’ and gave them another go.

Clinique Moisture Surge is not a cream but it’s in gel form. Very similar to Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Gel. This give me a cooling sensation upon application. I do not press on to my face like other skin care but with this I just applied normally. I find that this way it works better than pressing on.

I only use this during the odd period where I have nothing on the skin. You know. The time in between removing make ups after work to bed time? That’s when I slap this onto my face generously. I don’t apply my night skin care right after shower because my face would be oily while watching tv and by the time I’m ready for bed, I can’t stand the things on my face. So normally I’ll apply my night skin care right before I jump on the bed.

I find that the gel is more thicker. The good thing is it absorbed into the skin quickly and doesn’t feel heavy and sticky on the face at all.

I find that my skin dehydration problem is getting lesser and lesser. Now I make sure my skin is properly moisturized in between the odd period and I’m not stingy to slap this on thickly. Before I apply my daily skin care I just wash my face with cold water. Surprisingly this gel is washed off easily with no oily residue. I don’t use this under my make up as I’m still on Clarins and it’s just the same except for the consistency of the gel. One thing you need to note that Clinique Moisture Surge is retailing for RM165 for a 50ml jar. I’m not sure if I’d repurchase this from the counter but I might repurchase from online store as I prefer deluxe sample jar for this. I dipped my finger in the jar! That explains why I need deluxe sample hehe.

Anyone use Clinique Moisture Surge before? Does it keep your skin hydrated? I’m curious to know how this works for you!

  • I have a small jar from the Clinique sampling campaign. It was too rich for my oily skin for day use, but night use was slightly better. It didn’t get absorbed when applied on my face and I felt like it was “floating” on the surface of my skin which makes it very uncomfortable. Anyhow, Clinique products have not really worked for me actually.

    • Just use a little will do. This used to float on my skin too which is why I put it aside. Now that my skin is dehydrated, this works. So weird.

  • I got a sample of this moisture surge from Clinique’s workshop at my uni a few years back and I really liked it!
I ended up buying the full size when I was in Aust and it saved my skin. My skin was peeling but with this, it was all good. I use this back in Malaysia too but not that often. Every now and then on top of my moisturizer. Sometimes i use it over my makeup too. I think i finished two jars of this.

I’m not really sure whether it was mentioned anywhere in your website, but just to note, this moisture surge is supposed to be used on top of your moisturizer. The clinique lady explained, moisturizer is like the food, and this moisture surge is like water. Maybe that’s why it was ‘floating’ on your skin.

    • Thanks for your input Janice. Yes Moisture Surge is to be used on top of moisturizer. When I post up the review I didn’t know. I was just slapping on a thick layer when I’m lazy. Nowadays I put this on as the last step of my skin care 🙂

      • Oh, do u use serum and essence and this altogether? btw do u think there’s such a thing as “letting the skin breathe” by not putting on so many products on the face?

        • Yes I do but not from Clinique. My skin works well with Clarins.

From my point of view on “letting the skin breathe”… it really depends on your own preference. I never apply anything before last time and now that I started with a proper skin care regime I can see a huge difference with my skin. Sometimes it is okay to be lazy and skip the skin care routine. Which I do :). And I try not to apply anything on weekend (makeup, skin care – day). That’s my way of letting skin breathe.
