The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer is a concealer which I have been eyeing and been wanting to buy for years. It is THE concealer that has gotten so many ravings from all over the world. Everyone said this is the best affordable drugstore concealer. Everytime I saw an online seller listed it, I wanted to buy so badly. I didn’t because of the price. I cannot justify paying RM45 – RM55 for a Maybelline concealer. That, and the fact that I have so many other concealer at home.
A friend on Instagram, doodletoodle posted a photo on one fine Friday afternoon when I was at Coffee Bean having lunch. I clicked on the photo to read the description and voila! The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer is finally here! After finishing my lunch, I went one floor down to Aeon Wellness (where doodletoodle spotted the concealer) to check on it. True enough, I saw just two shades available – 120 Light and 130 Medium, as doodletoodle said on her Instagram and I grabbed the lightest shade available – 120 Light on the shelf. I even went to Guardian and Watsons to check and there was none. Yet.
Now, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer has a long mouthful confusing product name on earth! From the name itself, it indicates that this is an anti-aging concealer + dark circle covering concealer + a treatment concealer, whatever the treatment means. Weird enough, I have always know that this is quite a full coverage concealer but then I read from Instagram that this is a light coverage concealer. Then I know why some people think that way. You see, everything has got to do with the micro-corrector applicator. Yeap! That is what Maybelline refer the sponge applicator to as. I have a love-hate feeling with the applicator. When the concealer is brand new, it does not soak up product too much hence it also does not dispense a heavy coat of product on the under eyes. Hence the light coverage. When the applicator is used up like the photo below, trust me. This is a full coverage concealer. If you feel disappointed after the first use thinking this is not as full coverage as mentioned on online reviews, try using it for a few more rounds. As the product soaked up on the sponge more, it will give you a fuller coverage.
Back to the super confusing long mouthful product name. In short, this concealer is a super-concentrated concealer that are infused with Goji Berry and Haloxyl™ (no idea what is that) to help instantly erase dark circles and fine lines. I find that it does help with covering dark circles but not fine lines. If you do not set this concealer with the right powder, creasing will still happen to you. Till now I still have not found the right powder for this concealer.
Application on another hand is very easy and convenient with the micro-corrector applicator. My concealer as usual works as my under eyes concealer and my face highlighter. I even tried using this concealer to cover some acne spots and it works just as well. This concealer sets quite fast so I would suggest to blend away immediate right after application otherwise it will turn heavy and cakey for the under eyes.
To blend, sometimes I like to use my beauty blender. On most days where I am too lazy to wet my beauty blender, I prefer a flat foundation brush to dab and blend. Beauty blender tend to remove a bit product away and also too “wet” for my under eyes as powder tend to crease easily. That is why I still prefer a flat foundation brush for the under eyes.
Is this concealer worth the hype? If you are in need of a concealer then yes. I bought it mainly to satisfy my itch of owning one and also to see if this live up to the hype. No doubt it is one of the best concealer around but sadly this creases on my under eyes. Coverage wise, it is superb! I have no complain on that. For RM34.90 per concealer, this is one concealer worth to try. I am so happy that Maybelline Malaysia priced this concealer at an affordable price mark. Now let’s bring in the Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation, okay Maybelline Malaysia? 😀
