Review: umecare umeSkin Analyzer

I have something exciting to share! And that something arrived my doorstep last Friday.

If you read my previous review on the gift pack I received, I did mentioned that I’m interested with Careroll Derma Roller and umeSkin Analyzer as both are on special promo price. So, I bought it! I got the Careroll Derma Roller for just RM95 (normal price RM146) from umecare and I was also sent a umeSkin Analyzer for review! Yay!!

I’ve started using umeSkin Analyzer as soon as I opened the parcel. It’s addicting! I’ll tell you why.

There’s 2 color choices available which is white and pink.

And I was sent the pink one. I love pink :). I like how the item is visible through the clear window side on the box. The box is sturdy enough so protection of the item is definitely not an issue. Oh and the two item I received is also wrapped in a hard cardboard to prevent any mishaps during courier transit. Everything reaches me without a single dent on the box. Amazing. If you been reading my blog you’d know how I hate receiving dented product even if it’s the box. With umecare there’s no such issue. Yeap, I’m a perfectionist lol!

What is umeSkin Analyzer and how can it help you?
1) To understand your skin condition
Air-conditioned rooms, different working environments and different climates will affect your skin.
The Ume Skin analyzer determines the condition of your skin so you will know what should be done to improve your skin.
Valuable information such as your skin profile is provided just at your finger tips.

2) As a skin care product measurement tool.
It is a fantastic measurement tool for skin care product users to see the real performance and effectiveness of products.
It helps to determine the Right skin care products works best for the skin and save you time & money.

3) Convenience
Small and light with the size of a lipstick for Easy Carry, making it possible for the user to check and take care of their skin easily anywhere and anytime. Even at Home.

At the back of the box there’s a simple yet easy to understand description on the item. In my opinion you can also gift this to your besties / colleagues / your mummy without her scratching her head thinking the function of the gift!

Upon opening the box, I find that the skin analyzer sit nicely and securely on a plastic tray which is also covered. The package also include a landyard and an instruction leaflet.

umeSkin Analyzer is battery operated and ready to be use as soon as removing from the box as battery is already included. It’s small and light so you can bring this everywhere you go, in your pocket or even in your handbag.

To use, simply just remove the cap and press on the Start button (the one on the bottom) to turn on the skin analyzer.

Press the 2 contact probes on the area you wanted to analyze until you hear a beep. The measurement will appear on the LCD screen. In my case it’s 2 bar for Water, 2 bar for Oil and skin Roughness was on average :(. Overall moisture level is at 35%.

Here’s a step by step pictorial.

The umeSkin Analyzer can store up to 5 latest measurements, enabling users to recall previous check. The device will also switch off by itself if left idle for 15 seconds.

If you can see from the measurement on the device on top picture, my measurement was not so good. That’s because I didn’t apply any skin care beforehand to test this device and also to test a particular skin care out. But how do you read the measurement and what does it mean? Read below guide for easier understanding.

What’s great about this skin analyzer is that you can also use this to measure the effectiveness of a product. In my case I wanted to test out Clarins HydraQuench series. So after applying just only Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase, here’s my new measurement! Pretty good I would say. My Water level is at 4 bar, Oil level is at 5 bar which is full bar, skin Roughness is at Softer than Average and overall moisture level is 44%. AMAZING! If you’re wondering why my Oil level is at full bar, well that’s because Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase has 2 layer and one of the layer is something like oil.

Impressive small lil device eh? This umeSkin Analyzer can help me to stop buying unnecessary skin care and just buy whichever is suitable for my concern. In my case it’s hydrating and anti-aging. I can now understand more on my skin condition before skin care and enhance application on concern area. I can’t wait to test out other skin care from my stash.

Coming up next week – Careroll Derma Roller review…

Review: Clarins White Plus Renewing Gentle Exfoliator

Instead of doing a review on the current Clarins White Plus HP Gentle Brightening Exfoliator, I’m gonna review on the previous version before Clarins changed the name and packaging; Clarins White Plus Renewing Gentle Exfoliator.

Last December 2011 I went to Clarins’ Beauty Fair and I bought 3 White Plus Renewing Gentle Exfoliator for RM40 each. It’s the same with the current Gentle Brightening Exfoliator. The only different is the name and the design on the packaging. That’s all.

I always like their slim non-slippery squeeze tube. It’s a simple design which I’d appreciate. However the new design looks much better than this old design. But not to worry. You won’t be able to get this anymore hehe.

As usual Clarins kept the info on the back of the tube short and sweet. You need to refer to the insert included inside the box for full description, ingredients and how to apply instruction.

Every new tube comes with a protection seal. The dispensing hole is quite small. Which is good as you won’t be squeezing more than what’s needed 🙂

The first thing that caught my attention is how white the exfoliator is. Then there’s this heavenly scent. You’d know what I mean if you’re a Clarins user. The product’s scent is nice but not too overpowering.

Then there’s small orange beads inside the exfoliator.

Simple. Apply and massage in circular motion onto face avoiding the eye area and rinse with water.

This exfoliator is creamy and hydrating. There’s no dryness or tightening sensation after using. On long regular use one could see result. I paired this with their Intensive Clear Mask so the result is much more faster and visible.

1) Creamy and hydrating. Doesn’t leave skin dry after using.
2) Easy to use
3) Smells heavenly.
4) Visible result if use regularly as per instruction.

Definitely! But I have another 2 unopened tube so repurchasing would only be after finishing the 3 tubes 🙂

Review: Clarins White Plus HP Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel

One of my favourite whitening product from Clarins is definitely the White Plus HP Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel.

I’m lucky to score two bottle from previous PWP promotion and I only paid RM99 per bottle. This is 125ml and it’s retailing for RM152.

What exactly is Gentle Renewing Brightening Peel? The name makes no sense to me at first until the BA explains to me what is it and what is the usage of this. In short. . . this is a liquid “scrub” which is why Clarins named it “peel”. You can’t see or feel the scrubbing but it’s doing the dead skin peeling job. One thing for sure; I like the shiny pinkish smooth oval bottle heh!

Although the peel is in liquid but it’s not entirely runny type of liquid. When you shake the bottle you can hear hard liquid sound inside. Something like melted gelato? The dispenser head is just like normal but it doesn’t dispense anything out unless you squeeze the bottle. When you stop squeezing the dispensing stop. I like the idea a lot as it prevent dispensing more than enough content out.

Instruction from Clarins – Apply with a cotton pad soaked in lotion. Use on the face and neck, avoiding the eye contour area.

Okay. I don’t follow entirely what’s printed on the bottle nor I ever read the insert. I have 2 ways of using this peel.

Before mask – I’d use a cotton pad to apply on the face, leave it for 5-10 minutes and apply my mask. Either it’s sheet mask or Clarins wash-off mask.
Before toner – After cleansing face, use a cotton pad to apply on the face, leave for 10 minutes and apply toner follow by usual skin care routine. I learn this from reading other review.

Yes it does. My skin is smoother, skin care absorb better after using this and this is gentle enough to be use everyday! But of course I still have my other scrub from Clarins which I’d use one a week :). However this is a must for me before any mask.

1) Gentle to be use everyday. There’s no burning sensation unlike other scrubs in the market.
2) One bottle really really last long. I think I’m not even used up 1/4 of the first bottle. It’s really worth the money.
3) After using this skin care absorb better.
4) Good for lazy simple person that hate spending time scrubbing.

I already did ;). And yes I’d repurchase in the future after finishing the 2 bottles I have on hand. It’s gonna be a long time before I get to make a purchase lol.

Review: Clarins White Plus HP All Spots Whitening Corrector

Update 17th Dec 2011 – Fennie suggested to roll the serum on the back of the hand and use a clean finger to apply and pat on the face for hygiene purposes. Why I never thought of that!

Back in September during my second birthday purchase, I picked up Clarins White Plus HP All Spots Whitening Corrector 7ml for RM195 for my acne scar. I’ve been using it day and night for 2 months now and it’s finishing soon so I think it’s time to do a review on it. It’s very pricey but if it works why not. Read on to find out if this is worth to purchase or it’s just another blah product.

Clarins White Plus HP All Spots Whitening Corrector is one of many products in their newly revamped line earlier this year. Why do I say revamped? That is because White Plus HP is now enriched with Sea Lily!

What is Sea Lily & where is it originated?

Sea Lily a clean extraction process
Sea Lily extract comes from flowers specially grown for Clarins in Brittany. It is obtained using a « clean » extraction method, without chemical solvents, by maceration of the aerial parts of the sea lily in water.

Besides Sea Lily, the other ingredients are:
Sea Lily: limits the extension of dendrites.
Alchemilla: limits the transfer of melanin towards the epidermis.
Raspberry, highly stable vitamin C, biotin: brighten, prevent dark spots.
Salicylic acid: fades dark spots.
Tannins from alchemilla: reduce sebum secretion, tighten pores.
Meadowsweet: purifies the skin.

Clarins White Plus HP All Spots Whitening Corrector 7ml – RM195

This item comes with a portable roll-on head. I was advised to roll-on to the acne scar after cleansing, toning and eye care. Gently pat till it’s fully absorbed.

One thing I need to say about this product is that you need to be very very patient and hardworking. Although this serum’s ingredient is more rich, that doesn’t mean your scar will go away in a few application or days. It really do take some time for it to work. New scar fade faster than old scar. So normally I start rolling this onto my fading pimple so that it will not give me a scar.

So does this work? YES!! I can see my new scar fading very quickly and old scar is slowly fading and I’m quite pleased with it the result.

Pros:
1) Fade new & old acne scar.
2) Comes with handbag-portable roll-on for easy application.
3) Although it’s just 7ml, it does last long.
4) Quickly absorbed.

Cons:
Pricey for a 7ml!

I’m gonna repurchase this in 2 weeks time as there’s a special Christmas promo at Jusco One Utama 😉

Review: Clarins Toning Lotion With Iris

Happy Saturday everyone!

This week’s Clarins product review would be a basic product that all of us everytime after we washed our face. The product I’m gonna talk about today is none other than Clarins Toning Lotion With Iris.

There is 3 types of Toning Lotion namely Toning Lotion With Iris for combination or oily skin type, Toning Lotion With Camomile for normal or dry skin type and Extra Comfort Toning Lotion for dry and sensitized skin. I’m combination skin type so I’m using Toning Lotion With Iris which is the green toner!

Just like Clarins Cleansing Milk With Gentian, I own a few sizes of these babies. There’s 50ml, 100ml (no longer available) and 200ml which is the retail size.

Clarins Toning Lotion With Iris 200ml – RM90

This is certainly not a love at first sight toner for my case. The first time I sniff it I hated it. Poor Fennie had to changed the toner to White Plus HP toner which is more gentle on my nose. I can’t remember when is it that I took another sniff and it smelled so nice! It must be that during the first sniff I was having my monthly period that everything smells yucky to me LOL!!

The cap is screw-on type with a quite large opening for the toner to be dispensed onto cotton pad. The bottle is not slipper and stay firmly on my palm whenever I’m using it.

Normally I’d just tilt the bottle 2 times and it’s ready to be sweep onto my face.

Here’s some info from Clarins Malaysia website.

Beauty Benefits
Witch hazel, Sage and Aloe Vera in a refreshing toner that promotes well-being for the skin.

This alcohol-free lotion gently removes all traces of Cleansing Milk and stimulates and refreshes the skin while respecting its natural pH and moisture level. The skin is perfectly clean and ready for skin care products to be applied.

Application
Apply after Cleansing Milk. Dampen two small cotton pads with Toning Lotion and lightly sweep over the face, around the eyes and over the neck. Blot dry with a tissue.

Ingredients
-Bioecolia: preserves the skin’s natural balance.
-Witch Hazel: astringent, purifies, refreshes.
-Aloe: softens, moisturizes.

Here’s what I think of the toner.

Pros:
1) Huge bottle. Can really last for months with 2 application per day.
2) Smells good. In fact all Clarins product smells good!
3) Remove traces of makeup (if any).
4) Face feel very clean and fresh after application.

Cons:
I can’t find any!

Clarins Review: Skin Care Skin Care - Face Mist

Review: Clarins Aqua Essence Morning Energy

Somewhere in July a kind reader sent me a Clarins Aqua Essence Morning Energy 10ml after reading about my love for Clarins products. Thank you! It’s good to try out a deluxe sample before buying the full size product 🙂 I’ve been using the sample for near to 2 weeks before purchasing a full size product.

What Clarins said in their website are that the mist is the first step to a fresh, healthy glow in the morning. It contains Green Coffee which revives skin while Red Current hydrates and softens. An invigorating lotion based on plant extracts that revives skin’s radiance. Applied before daily skin care, it restores the fresh radiance of toned skin which glows with youthful vitality.

So, I’d assume this is a “pre-serum” and since it said use before daily skin care. . . I’m using this mist after cleansing and toner. It’s kinda waste if I follow the instruction from Clarins website which is before cleansing and daily moisturiser.

The ingredients:
Green Coffee: stimulating Ginseng: when combined with Green Coffee, re-energises skin which appears more supple and toned. Red Current: moisturises and softens skin making it appear smoother. White Tea: protects against free radicals to preserve the skin’s youthfulness.

The essence comes in a frosty glass container which makes me very happy holding it. It feels heavy on hand and looks huge too 🙂

The nozzle spray is a stylish, sturdy gold make. The essence sprayed out perfectly onto my face. It’s a bliss every morning.

The colour of the essence is in orange colour but don’t worry this will make you look orangey. Once the essence is dispensed out it appears clear.

After using it for a few weeks every morning, I couldn’t see any major changes. Of course. This is just a pre-serum to prepare the skin for skin cares and makeups. But it did freshen my skin and my face look more “waken up”. At least I don’t look dull every morning 😛

Retail Price: RM155 for 100ml

Pros:
1) Prep the skin for skin cares and makeups.
2) Freshen and wake up the skin.
3) Lightweight and smells nice.
4) One bottle last quite long.

Cons:
1) A bit costly for a facial mist.
